I have a question about low calorie diets. When you follow such diets do you need to just watch the calories or do you need to watch fat and carbs to? Also I am 5'5 weigh 156 and i am a mother of a 20 month old. What is a good calorie range for me to be in to lose 25 pounds? I hopw someone can help me out here.

I was exactly where you are 1.3 years ago. I was 5'5" and weighed 156. Today I weigh 123. I lost it all going low calories. I ate 1200 calories a day, every single day with NO CHEATING. I started last year in April and by September (5 months later) was down to 130. I used www.fitday.com (http://www.fitday.com) to keep track of every single calorie. Fitday also keeps graphs of your progress.
I've written about how I did it in another post not long ago. Here is a link you can click to save me from having to type it all again. :D

Good luck to you. You can do it. I'm the biggest weeny in the world and was able to lose the weight. The biggest thing it takes is determination and the realization that every day you put it off is just another day you're going to be overweight....GET MAD!!

Hi rsrser!
I have also lost weight by counting calories, and am still doing it. Like Lindarella, I allow myself 1200 per day, except I don't count on weekends. This slows my progress, but it makes the diet easier for me.
Whether you count fat, carbs, etc. is totally up to you. Personally I don't count anything but calories. Different things work for different people, so you might start off counting just calories, and if that doesn't give you good results, try watching the other things too.
And I agree that Fitday is a HUGE help - give it a try! Good luck!

Hi rs, I'm here on and off when I get time. :) What did you need?
I think you could do that diet. It's fairly easy to keep track of calories. It's hard to limit them at first and 1200 isn't very many but I wanted to lose fast. I think 1300 would have worked also but just would have been slower.
In any case, if you have anymore questions I'll be happy to answer them.

my question is do I just count the calories nothing else? and how do I decide what is the best amount of calories for me to ingest. I am 5'5" 156. I hardly ever sit throughout the day. I want to lose 25 pounds quick. I am using phentermine in conjuction with counting calories.
Thanks for all your help

I've done this type of diet twice. The first time was 5 years ago. I lost 28 lbs in about 3-4 months. I did really well at keeping the weight off until my father's death 3 years later, and I started eating everything in sight & gained back 20 lbs. I'm doing the same diet again now, and have lost about 14 lbs in 2 months. Not very fast, but I've found that when I lose weight slowly, it's easier to keep it off after I reach my goal.
As far as how many calories you should eat... I've heard some people say that you should eat 10 times whatever you want to weigh. For example, if you want to weigh 130 lbs, eat 1300 calories per day. I chose 1200 for myself just because it's the lowest recommended amount, and I thought it would help me reach my goal a little bit faster (my goal is 135-140).
Like I said before, I count calories and nothing else. Give it a try, and if you don't have much success, start keeping track of fat & carbs too - you might need to lower them also.
Good luck!

I agree with Houdidi. I chose 1200 calories so I'd lose quickly without starving too much. :)
I also didn't count anything besides calories, no fat, no carb, no nothing but calories.
Of course I tried to replace those very high calorie things with lower calorie food so I could eat more. Things such as pizza, cookies and fast food, I avoided.

Lindarella, I just want to say THANK YOU THANK YOU SO MUCH. If you hadn't of posted the thing about fitday i may have never found it, and it is exactly what i've been looking for for a long time. So many other websites have a monthly charge for the same exact thing that fitday does, and being a poor college student like myself I can't afford any extra expenses. So thank you so much. I'm doing the south beach diet right now. I want to lose a bit of weight before august 6th, so I needed a lightening fast plan for starters, but after that I plan on going slow, and fitday is the perfect thing. So thank you so much. I really admire you for keeping the weight off with such a simple plan. Hopefully, it works for me too. :)

No need to thank me girl...It's a great place. I don't think I could have done it without the ease of having a place to keep track of everything. And heck, you can't beat free! I tell everyone I can about it.
I think the one mistake quite a few people make is that they THINK they're not eating so much but when you actually put it in fitday and see it IN WRITING, you're usually shocked at how those little bites of things you eat all day add up to BIG calories. I was shocked at how much I was eating when I first started using it. Over time, if you keep using it, you can about guess how many calories you're eating in a day. It just makes you so much more aware. I think that awareness helps when you finally reach a goal.
Good luck to everyone.
