I've been doing a lot of reading lately on body types. Obviously, not everyone is the same and we have to make adjustments depending on our body type. And I've read that people don't fit exactly into one body type. Of the three types, they tend to have characteristics of each, but they lean towards one or two types more than the other(s). But I'm having trouble figuring out what type I am. Here are the types and their characteristics:

Endomorph
- Naturally high levels of body fat
- Usually large boned, large joints, large frame (but not always)
- Short arms and legs
- Smooth, round or pear shaped body
- Wide waist and hips
- Waist dominates over chest
- Tends to always store excess calories as fat
- Has difficutly keeping fat off after it is lost
- Tends to be sluggish, slow moving, and lacks energy
- Has a slow thyroid or other hormone imbalance (sometimes)
- Has fairly good strength levels
- Sensitive to carbohydrates
- Responds better to diets high in protein and low in carbohydrates
- Has a naturally slow metabolism
- Falls asleep easily and sleeps deeply
- Requires lots of cardio to lose weight
- Has difficulty losing weight
- Has bouts of fatigue and tiredness
- Tends to gain fat easily as soon as exercise is stopped
- Tends to lose fat slowly even on a healthy diet
- Is often overweight despite not eating very much
- Responds best to frequent, even daily training

Mesomorph
- Medium joint circumference
- Small waist
- Broad shoulders
- Chest dominates over abdominal area
- Naturally lean (has low levels of body fat without even working out
- Naturally muscular (was muscular before even started working out)
- Naturally strong (was strong before even started working out)
- High energy levels
- Doesn’t store carbohydrates as fat
- Fast metabolism
- Controls body fat easily
- Gains strength easily
- Gains muscle easily
- Loses body fat easily
- Responds very quickly to any type of training
- Natural born athlete

Ectomorph
- Naturally skinny, wiry
- Long limbs, linear
- Small joints, small-boned
- Small waist, narrow shoulders
- Naturally lean (has low levels of body fat without even working out)
- Low strength levels prior to starting a training program
- Very fast metabolism – Burns up everything even when overeating
- Doesn’t store carbohydrates as fat
- High energy levels
- Tends to be overactive and restless
- Natural born endurance athletes
- Sometimes can’t maintain weight
- Has difficulty gaining weight
- Sometimes has trouble sleeping
- Responds best to low volume, brief, infrequent, high intensity weight training

The endomorph traits I have are short legs, stores excess calories as fat, sleeps deeply, requires lots of cardio to lose weight, tends to gain fat easily as soon as exercise is stopped, and responds best to daily training.

The only mesomorph trait I have is that I have a small waist.

The ectomorph traits I have are naturally skinny, long arms, small joints, small boned, small waist, and low strength levels prior to training.

So I'm definitely not a mesomorph, but I don't lean very heavily towards either endomorph or ectomorph either.

Does anyone know of a better way to determine what body type they are?

Donuts and coffee,I saw an ad in a first for Women magazine about a Dr Sandra Cabot MD that is a specialist in that area..She has a website but it is not permissible on this website to post other websites so just do a search on her name and you should get her website on this..I found out from her website that I am a G body type or Gynaeoid. I hope that you will find this useful somehow..Good luck and hopefully you can find out which type you are..It tells you how to eat for your body type to lose weight.. :)
