I've actually been following Atkins for the last 3 days or so. Which leads me to a question..maybe someone can help. If you follow Atkins and stay under the 20 grams of carbs allowed during induction; does it matter what your caloric intake is??? I have been staying around 1100-1200 and I'm wondering if I'm not losing much because my body feels like it's in "starvation mode". Normally, on a low-fat diet I would stay with 1200 calories. I was just wondering if calories make that much of a difference when it comes to success. I've been eating the things that are allowed: eggs, cheese, salad, dressing, chicken, fish, green beans, sf jello, etc. And I limit the amount of cheese each day because I read before that too much can hinder weightloss. I just feel like I'm doing something wrong!

I just started 4 days ago and have lost 4 pounds already. Best of all--my cravings have dramatically reduced. Even the amount of food that I'm consuming has seemed to lessen. The times before that I tried Atkins I didn't stay on it very long--this time I'm determined to make it work!!!

I'm struggling. The scale hasn't moved at all. My pants feel looser, but that's about all. I don't understand why I can't lose a whole bunch of weight like everyone else on induction. Guess I'm the only one. The only explanation that has been given to me is that I exercise and that maybe I'm building muscle. I don't know. I'm getting very very discouraged. I even fell off the wagon this weekend. I'm back on the wagon though, but for how long, who knows.

Skip, don't be discouraged! If you are losing inches, your body is still doing what it's supposed to and the scale will start moving soon. As long as you are losing inches or pounds, you are on the right track!
I'm still going strong and absolutely love this way of eating. I've lost 45lbs since December and hope to lose 40 more. As far as being right for a busy mommy, I am a mom of twins and run a child care/preschool in my home -- it sure works great for me! If you are already a big meat eater, you'll like it too. It will just readjust where you are getting your carbs from.
Good luck!

I hit my 2 week mark yesterday and I haven't felt this good in years and BTW, I'm 57. At first I thought this isn't going to work, because I'm not a meat eater and don't care about cheese that much. After the 1st week I was already tired of eggs, too. Now it's a whole new way of life for me. I've lost 9 pounds and got back into jeans I haven't worn in a year. I was only looking to lose 15, but 20 would be better. I'm not even interested in adding the extra carbs yet. I did make the delicious French toast recipe that Skip suggested and believe me it is delicious. You can get 2 days out of it. I bought the sugar-free ketchup and added Splenda and you can't tell the difference from regular ketchup. I bought the sugar free syrup and other than being a little runny, it's just as good as any syrup out there. I made cocktail sauce with my ketchup and enjoyed fish. I made BBQ sauce and now that I can disguise my meat, it's great. I did buy a protein whey mix (vanilla) at the healthfood store with a bottle of strawberry flavoring (no carbs, no sugar). The whey mix is 3 carbs for 2 scoops. I make a smoothie with 1 scoop, 8 ounces water, ice and a little flavoring and blend in the blender...it's great!!!! I've had to eat out 5 times since I started and have totally adjusted while everyone around me is having the foods I used to eat and love. I have my sugar-free jello in the evening. If you go to a healthfood store there are so many options and if the person operating the place is very knowledgeable, you'll know what is good to buy and what isn't. I purchased lemon/poppy muffin mix (3 carbs a muffin) and I made 13 of them out of 1 package. I haven't eaten any yet because I'm still waiting a few more days for good measure. I haven't eaten a lot of cheese, but the main thing I've found is I don't crave food all the time and I'm not hungry. I have to literally force myself to take the time to eat something for lunch. I have so much more energy and feel so much better mentally. I have always excercised so I haven't changed that at all. I've been doing tons of research on the net and found a fabulous site for low-carb recipes. The one thing I noticed about this diet (or should I say...eating change) is that I have no desire to cheat. Before I would always say...one oreo won't hurt, handful of pretzels...just to tide me over....always picking and cheating. Heck, if I want to I can have nuts and I used to skip those thinking they were fattening *L*. I know if I do it now it will sabotage all that I've worked for. Even my rheumatoid arthritis is in check. The only thing that this hasn't improved is I'm still getting hot flashes *L*.
I know this is rather long, but just had to share some of the really good stuff about Atkin's that might help someone else just starting.

I've been "officially" on Atkins since last Wednesday and I've lost 7 pounds so far. Not too bad. The thing I like the best is that I am in control of my eating habits--no uncontrollable craving! Get this-I baked 3 different kinds of cookies last night (and some rice krispy treats) and did not so much as lick the batter from my fingers!!!! That's not like me at all!!! But, I'm determined to succeed this time around.
Matts: I also like the SF Jello as my evening snack!!!
Well, continued success to all my Atkins friends!!! Hopefully next time I report I'll have shed some more!!
Jen
Skip: I found that since I don't have a large amount of weight to lose (only 15 or so more to go) that the weight comes off a little slower on Atkins. My cousin (who I might add was at 300 pounds) has been doing it for about a month--maybe a little less and has lost 45 pounds so far! I'm so happy for here; she's only in her 20's. I'm glad she decided to take her health seriously!!!!
So, don't get discouraged. If you follow the plan like you are supposed to....the weight will come off. Just be patient. Remember; you didn't gain it overnight!!!!

The french toast recipe in the atkins #3 thread. I had trouble finding the thread. Here's the recipe again. I found this on a low-carber forum. I wish I could post the link for you, but I'm afraid I'll get in trouble since it's against the rules to post links here. Here's the recipe:
"French Toast
By Norma-June
French Toast
2 Eggs
1/4 cup heavy (whipping) cream
2 pkgs. Splenda
Cinnamon to taste
1/2 of a 3 oz. bag Pork rinds.
(1) Mix eggs, cream, sweetener and cinnamon.
(2) Crush pork rinds and mix with above mixture.
(3) Allow to soak until it becomes a very thick and goopy batter (3-5 minutes).
(4) Fry pancake style in butter until browned and flip over. Cook until done as you would french toast or pancakes.
Serve with any LC syrup or make your own as follows:
(1) Cream butter until soft (use as much as you need for syrup). I melt it in the microwave.
(2) Add maple extract and sweetener to taste.
Not my recipe ... got it from another list. This tastes better than any I've made using Atkins bake mix, almond and or soy flour."

Skip, thanks again for posting that recipe. I've sense modified it with only 1 pkg. Splenda and still found it plenty sweet because of the cream. I'm thinking next time I make it to skip the Splenda all together. I made a batch just last night and it makes 2 big pieces. I just wrap them and then microwave in the morning and they are just so "yummy." That sugar free syrup is soooo good. I'm thinking of making a batch and freezing individually. My homemade BBQ sauce came out great, too. I'm truly enjoying experimenting with all this.

Suej1946, the protein mix I bought at the healthfood store is "Naturade 100% Whey Protein Booster. The can says "adds protein to sauces, cereals, casseroles and smoothies." I bought vanilla flavor. It has 1 carb., 1 sugar and 16 protein in a two scoop serving. I'm only using 1 scoop. I also bought a box of soy milk, but haven't tried that yet.
I did a search on low carb food and diets and found 1,000 recipes. A health store is the way to go and especially if someone helps you. There are so many options out there, I was amazed. We're traveling this weekend and I'm going to pack a couple of my muffins in the cooler with some butter to have for a breakfast substitute for eggs. They are 3 carbs each. Do a search, you'll be so surprised what's out there.
