Hi everyone - I'm new here and could really use some encouragement and support!
I'm a 19 year old college student, 5'5" and an uncomfortable 187 pounds. I want to get down to at least 140 but I'm not sure how long it's going to take so I haven't set any specific goals yet.
I'm just watching calories and trying to eat a balanced, healthy diet. I was on Atkins last year, and lost 25 pounds. But.. I gained it all back. I think this approach will be easier for me to maintain and live with.
Thanks for listening and please cheer me on as I will do for you!

Hi Mella! Yeah, I'm with you. Whatever diet plan relies on common sense and not counting every half of a calorie or one-tenth of a gram of fat, whatever little tidbits of common sense and new research you happen to pick up here and there, whatever plan doesn't take away every last scrap of sugar or sodium in my house but tells me in terms I can understand why tons of each aren't good for me, whatever plan refuses to say "don't eat anything red" or "you can't have fish! it's Thursday!", that's the plan I'll follow. I won't subscribe to a "program". I have to do this my way.
Well, my way involves lots of cookies and waffles, but it's ALMOST my way. ;) It's "the Sean program". (Or the anti-program, if you'd prefer.)

Hi Mella! Welcome to the board! You might want to join the "Summer Challenge" with us (I see Sean has already posted there!). It's very simple. Just look for the most recent thread each day (Andreaphilip starts a new one each day, and she numbers them so you can easily find the latest one - right now we're up to #64).
The challenge runs through the end of August. You choose how much weight you're going to try to lose by then, and how you're going to lose it. Then just log in as often as you can, and post how you're doing, challenges you're facing, problems you're having, or just say hello or vent if you need to. That's all there is to it!
Everyone is welcome to join at any time. Hope to see you there!

Hi Mella,
Angelmagic here, thank for your reply. It seems we have lots in common, we're both new, my height is 5'4 and my weight is 185 how ironic!! But that's cool we can motivate each other cause we're both on the same stomping ground if ya know what i mean. I look forward to helping one another out and making new friends!!
Talk to ya later

I am new also as of today. I am trying to follow the low carbs/high protein diet. I have such a sweet tooth for candy (not chocolate but jolly ranchers, suckers licorice...). I have tried to substitute that for fruit but I am not sure that it will help all that much. I have a problem w/ acid reflux disease and everything on that diet makes me feel like a whale. I would appreciate any help I can get!

Hi Mella! :D
I'm a college student too, shorter and heavier than you lol-- I've been trying to lose weight on low-cal,have lost almost 20, but I'm going to start Atkins next week, cuz I've been stuck for quite awhile and would like to make a bigger dent in this weight I'm trying to lose before I head back to school. I was hesitant to do Atkins since I'll be going back to school and dont' know how easy it will be to stick to then, but I figure I"ll cross that bridge when I come to it ;) Just wanted to say good luck and welcome!
