Hello,
This is my first post. I am 20 years old, and I have reached the absolute limit of weight gain. I decided tonight that I am going to lose weight and get healthy, because I am on a destructive path that will kill me if I don't (plus I am tired of not being able to shop at those cute stores my friends all go to lol)
As of this morning (right now, its 2:35am) I am beginning my new life. However, I realized that I cannot do it alone, and since all of my friends are eather tiny, or secure with themselves, so I need support from people who are trying to lose the weight.
My questions are, 1.) is there anyone out there who needs support, and in turn is willing to give it back? If so, message me. I think everyone needs someone to talk to, especially when doing something as hard as this.
2.) What are good ways of going about this? lol I have never done a successful diet.
Thanks and good luck everyone!
Sarah

Sarabeth,
First let me welcome you to the health boards. You will meet lots of wonderful people here. All the women here are truly friendly and encouraging!! All age ranges!
You should join the summer weightloss challenge, it ends soon but you can still join, it will then turn into a fall challenge of some sort. You post your start stats (only if you want to) and how much you want to lose by the end of that challenge. You'll receive tons of support there. We all do different types of diets. I usually do lowcal/lowfat, I lost 30lbs doing this. I am not able to stick with that diet, so now I'm trying the 3 day diet and considering doing low carb, almost Atkins style.
Do searchs on this board, or just read on the different posts, you'll see at the bottom you can go back through like 10 pages of posts!!
Good Luck to you :)

Welcome sarabeth,
You have already made the most important decision.....to lose weight and gain control.
I have lost 55lbs pounds so far and and still losing. I would like to lose about 25 more.
What you need to do now is to evaluate what your goal is, when you want to get there and how you are going to do it. You must choose a plan that you can live with. Don't do atkins if you know you can't give up bread. Don't do low fat if you love cream and bacon.
I personally do atkins and can contributer most of my loss to it. I love food!! I can't stand a hungry feeling in my stomach. With Atkins I can eat all the acceptable foods and never be hungry. When I did lowcal/low fat I was alwasys hungry and felt deprived. this is where we are all different. That is why I say you need to research this post and the net about some of these plans and see what makes sense to you.
I'm not sure of how much you want/need to lose but i had about 80lbs to lose when I started. The best jumpstart for me was a liquid diet at the beginning. i chose slimfast 2xs perday. i did that for about 6 months. I did lose weight and it got me going in the right diretion. I found it to be a very easy start. Now Atkins is the way for me.
Okay, I will stop preaching about Atkins!
Anways, we are all here for you. We were all new here one time like you. Congrats on making the first step to longterm success!
Good Luck!

sarabeth: I just wanted to welcome you to the boards. As you can already tell by the members who have responded to your posting; this is a great place for support & motivation! These gals (and guys) have become like part of my family. My daily chats here on the board have certainly become an important part in my weight loss journey. Even after my journey is complete and I'm trying to maintain--this will always be like home to me!!! I hope you will stick around to experience the friendship and support that many so lovingly offer!
First of all; we need to know a little more about you. You don't have to post what you weight now--just a little info. like maybe how tall you are; what you want to lose, & what your eating/exercising habits are like now. Then we can help you make small changes a little at a time so it's not so overwhelming for you. It sound to me that you are ready to "get straight with your weight" and we'd love to help!!! Welcome aboard!!!
Jen

Hi, Sarabeth! Welcome! I hope you will find these boards as enjoyable and helpful as I do.
There are many different diets out there- low carb worked for me. My advice to you: don't deprive yourself too much- I did, and lately I have been eating "bad foods" too often!
Again, welcome. Join the Summer Weight Loss Challenge. We basically update each other on our diets, exercise, and lives. It's great.
Take care!!

sarahbeth,
Glad to have you! This message board is fantastic and has helped me so much. I'm doing the Atkins diet but as the others have told you, there is a lot of variety out there. Just decide what's best for you - a plan you can live with. I think the hardest part is making the decision to change your life. Congratulations!

Hi Sarah! Welcome to the board! As you can see, there are many people here who are willing to help out by giving you support & motivation. Glad you found us!
Can you tell us what (if any) types of weight loss plans you've tried before? And what were your results, problems, likes, dislikes, etc? That info will be a good starting point to determine what might work best for you.
Once you figure out what method you're going to try, take Shel's advice and join us on the summer challenge (or the next one, the Thanksgiving challenge, which will start 9/1). AndreaPhilip (AP, as we call her) starts a new thread every day, so they don't get too long. She's our fearless leader! ;)
Anyway, good luck to you, and I hope to see you on the challenges!

Hi Sarahbeth!! Welcome to the boards!! Congrat on putting your foot down, that's the first step. The next thing is to get active, with arobics or start simple with something like walking. Then all you have to do is watch your food intake, in other words, try not to over-indulge. You will start to see results just be patient. We are all here to support you. I just started a few weeks ago and have lost 5pds, sounds small but its a start. Anyway, good luck, we are here for you.
