I have been using CLA for about 4-5 days now, In addition to eating properly and exercising, and I am noticing that my body has more "definition" to it. This morning I noticed that I actually have a waist! WOOHOO been a long time since I saw that! I am also finding that I am starting to just feel better in general, and I do think the CLA is making a difference.

I use Tonalin 500mg CLA by Swiss Natural Sources (a Canadian company)- it's from the health food store- I initially looked everywhere for CLA and had a hard time finding it.

What is CLA and how does it work? Does it have any type of stimulants in it? Just curious because I saw it the other day at Wal Mart and it didn't list all the ingredients. If my trimbia doesn't help me with my weight loss then I may consider this. I am on Synthroid so I cannot have any kind of stimulant. Thanks.-Roni

Hi there:

CLA (conjugated linoleic acid) is a recently recognized supplement derived from Safflower oil. Years of research at the University of Wisconsin indicate that CLA may help "partition" the way energy is stored and utilized which may result in a reduction of body fat and increased muscle retention.

I lost 40lbs using CLA in about 6 months. I also made the connection between eating low fat and exercising too. The weight melted right off, so I could see the results.

You can get CLA in two "strengths" 1000mg and 500mg, I used the 1000 for the first 6 months and have been using the 500mg to maintain my goal weight. I get my bottle at Costco, the price is good, but it can also be bought at any health food, nutrition store.

I swear by CLA--it really worked for me. Check out the following site--there is a write up on CLA under the Lifelong weight Strategies section, near the bottom under "Smart Supplements." ***

OH and it is NOT--I repeat is NOT a diet pill! No stimulants--it is a natural substance! Research it online--there is lots of good info--no side effects of course.

Take care and keep up the good work!!
Robbit

I also wanted to add the brand I saw at Wal Mart was called EAS Advant Edge HP High Performance CLA. It did not have any mg listed on the bottle. All it said was to take 2 softgels 1-2 times daily with meals. Do have any idea about this brand and if it is any good?-Roni

I looked that brand up online and looks to be the same thing. I would think because it is only 2 softgels a day they would be the 1000 strength. I take 3 a day and I use the 500mg.

IF you try it, be sure to stick to a well-balanced, low fat diet--lots of fruit and veggies and exercise of course. You will see a difference in a month! I think I had lost about 10lbs in the first 8 weeks. A real incentive for me!

Robbit...sorry for all the questions. What brand did/are you using. I read that Tonalin was suppose to be the best and that if a product doesn't list what is in it then they aren't the real thing. What do you think?-Roni

I called EAS inc and they told me that this product contains only a small amount of safflower oil and contained mostly sunflower oil in it. The guy could not give me the mg for it. I only paid 15 dollars for it. I wonder if I could find Tonalin somewhere here. I hate ordering over the phone or online.-Roni

I don't know if you have a Drug Emporium anywhere near you but I bought some of the Tonalin there today for about $27. Good luck on finding it!!!

The brand I use is Tonalin. I don't specifically look for that, but both places that are easy for me to get to have it. I am in Canada and I pay $22 for 90 caps of the 600mg (sorry I had said earlier I used 500mg.)I think at Costco they were $20 or so. Would be cheaper for you guys in the U.S to get them here! IF you do have access to Tonalin, I would try that because I can only comment on using that kind.

Let me know if you need more info!

I'm interested in trying this CLA....so get the Tonalin and how many mgs a day should we take? Does Tonalin work if you don't exercise but stay active?

I bought my first bottle today. I called it in and my mom was picking it up to save me the 1hr drive. This stuff is not cheap. I paid 40 dollars for this. I bought the Tonalin at 1000mg. I also am part of the weight loss challenge. Sept 1 is the Thanksgiving Challenge and I am going to keep up and see how well I do. I need to lose about 30 lbs and lots of inches.-Roni

Well I am on day 2 of this stuff. I have been jogging 30 min in the am and pm. I have had to alter my diet to an extreme(it seems)due to my thyroid.

The brand I bought is Nature's Way Tonalin xs-cla. It says up to 35% higher potency.(74-82%cla).

I weighed in today at 156lbs. I will do measurements in a little while. I won't do them again until next Monday.-Roni

Hi Deers (and welcome to everyone thinking of CLA)
Look for a brand of CLA that has 1000mg gelcaps. The brand I started with was TOnalin. I got them at Costco. I have since used whatever brand I can get on sale, and still maintaining my weight loss. I actually have been using the 600mg ones now that I am at my goal weight, but I would encourage you to use 1000mg--3 times a day. Eat right (low fat)and have some kind of exercise plan that you can do everyday. Nothing major, even a 15 minute routine will help the CLA do its job.

Take care!

Hey DP!!!

I started it last Sunday and so far I have lost 1lb. It probably work slower on me than you becasue my thyroid has been slowing everything done. I like that it is safe. I have been drinking about 2 liters of water a day. I try to keep my calorie intake at around 1200-1300 a day and my fats and carbs low but not too low. Good luck with it.-Roni

I have a quick question, and I'm not sure that anyone will be able to answer, but... here goes.

I am on Wellbutrin SR (sustained release anti-depressant) and I always get nervous about taking anything else with it... but since CLA is not a "miracle pill" and it's just safflower oil, do you think I'll be okay? If you have a guess, I'd love to get your opinion! thank you.

roni624

Notorious....you can call your local pharmicist or dr and ask if it is okay. I am on thyroid meds and my dr said it was safe.-Roni

Robbit
09-05-2003, 06:03 PM
Hi Notorious: Definately pass it by your Dr. or pharmacist. It is just a supplement. Not a diet pill. No ephedrine or anything stimulating in it so can't imagine it would interfere with anything. Alwyas good to check though. It is just an essential oil.

Take care,
Robbit
