I have been doing this for two weeks and have not lost a single pound. The book I bought (by Dr. Atkins) said you can eat up to 20mg of carbs per day mainly from vegetables. Some people are telling me no carbs whatsoever for two weeks and I'm getting discouraged and confused. I have kept my carbs under 20mg every single day but have not seen any results. Someone told me it was because I had a cup of caffinated coffee every day, but that just doesn't make sense to me???

Hi, I have coffee every day and that doesnt do anything to you. Im on atkins and have been for 2 months now. I lost 16 lbs but seem to be stuck at that.
stick to the 20 g of carbs a day. give it time and you should see some results soon. just be patient.

Don't eat less than 20 grams. Whoever told you none was wrong. Unless you're on the Fat Fast (wouldn't recommend that one).

For some reason caffeine does something to your blood sugar levels. Try decaf if you can.

Maybe more exercise??? Can't be sure.

Maybe you're not eating enough and have gone into starvation mode. It happens sometimes.

Here's a sample of yesterday's menu.

B: coffee with cream and splenda
2 scrambled eggs with shredded cheese
L: Salad (allowed greens measures) with fetta cheese and tuna (no carb dressing).
D: Steak and chicken on the grill, 1 cup broccoli

Other: carb solutions bar (2g), some nuts (3g), a mozarella stick, only water to drink, picked on some cheese - - - I add this up to be about 15g?

Today so far I've had:

B: coffee, 2 scrambled eggs and 2 sausage
L: Same salad as above, 1 mozarella stick and sf jello

Jennyo,
I would check out the splenda.Does it say it has anything in it with the last letters of tol.like monitol(sp) or anything with tose on the end of the word.Like Frutose. On the 2 week induction part of Dr. Atkin's it says to stay away from anything with ose,tol etc. This is sugar. Plus I'm not sure about the nuts either. You can have all this after the induction, but during the 2 week induction to get you started losing. You have to stay away from this stuff.
You might want to check it out in your Dr.Atkin's book
if you have one. I don't have the book right here in front of me now ,but if you have the book to refer to it is a lot easier. Good luck!! sjg

Hi, I am not on Atkins right now, (pregnant) but was just checking up on the weight loss board. I lost 48 pds on it before I got pregnant, but to your question. If I were you I would cut out all nuts and no bars at all. I went on a cruising halt when I started adding them. You can add them later when you feel like having a snack, but they can get addicting and also seem to halt weight loss in a lot of people. Also watch your salt intake to make sure that you aren't retaining water. If you have any ketosticks that would really help you I think. I always strived to keep it dark purple while I was on it. I will be rejoining you guys in a few months. Hope to see you down quite a bit by then. Good Luck... kk

Thanks to all. I'm just so confused with all this and get conflicting reports in all directions. My mother INSISTS that her Atikins book states no carbs whatsoever during induction. Its not worth disputing because my books states its ok. I checked on the Splenda, and it is ok but is counted toward your daily carb total (1g). I've been picking on the nuts and bars because I'm having such a hard time with this diet. I am literally starving all the time and am eating more than I have in years. I don't particularly like meat of any kind and sort of have to force myself to come up with meal plans. I've looked through the Atkins website for ideas, but I look at all of it and go yuck! I figured that as long as I kept my carbs under 20g I would be okay. I will definately eliminate nuts and bars now and see what happens.

jennyo,
Have you read Dr.Joseph Mercola's site: The Potential Dangers Of Sucalose. I just ran across it tonight. It seems if we are using Splenda, or Aspartame. We are getting posioned. I know none of the sugar subs. are good for us, but I didn't think it was as bad as he makes it sound. I use Aspartame, but not a lot of it. I knew it can be dangerous.Especially if you use it a lot ,but Thank God I don't. I'm not much of a soda drinker. But due use Aspartame in whipped cream, strawberries, and in tea once in awhile. But he really is down on splenda.I guess because it's a fairly new item. The website is medcola.com. I don't know if I'm supposed to put it on the post like this, but if you find it.You should read it. Let me know what you think of it. Hope you have had some luck with your diet.Althought it is probably too soon to tell yet.
Take Care!! sjg
