I was never married to my DD father. We were working together when "it" happened and he was not prepared for anything like that and only wanted to give me money to "take care of it" which i would not do in a million years!! he told his mother at the time to stay out of it and threatened not to speak to her if she got involved. well about 5 years ago when my DD turned 6 she got involved against his wishes and he was not happy about it and basically has hardly spoken to her over the past 5 years. he is just starting to get in contact with her (mother). that is just sad on his part to be like that but....that is really a hard one to explain to a 10 yr old that her father isnt around because he wasnt ready for the responsibility of having a child...see i told you it was a loooong story!!!
anyway his mother apologizes constantly for her son's actions and her actions for actually listening to him for the first 6 years. i know she loves her granddaughter very much and she has basically taken me and DH in as family.
Wow Snoopy, that must have been hard, but it's good you followed your heart and kept the baby. Too bad he had to be that way though. I bet the grandmother is upset she missed the first six years of your daughters life.
Is your husband younger? I think if you were both ready that 40 is not too old to have a baby at all. Didn't Joan Lunden or someone who is 54 just have twins?? I was almost 21 when I had my daughter, I was totally not ready at all, NOW I feel sooooooooo ready and I know I would be sooooooooo much better at it. My daughter was colicky for the first 3 months, so every time she slept I put her down and did what I had to do around the house, now I think I would just hold and cuddle the baby :). I love that baby smell, and the feel of them on your shoulder sleeping. And baby feet!!! Are so cute!!!!!!!!!!! ahhhhhhh, better stop before I get teary eyed, lol..........
btw, maybe having a baby is what your hubby needs to make him act more responsible!! :)

shel - i thought that but then i thought...maybe it wont..he says he thinks of my DD as his own but he doesnt always act that way unfortunately.
he is older 44 believe it or not. he was the baby of his family and his moms favorite so i think that is where some of his personality comes in...he will even admit he has responsibility issues..it is hard because i sometimes feel like i am a single parent of 2!!

Oh snoopy, for some reason I thought he was younger!! Like someone mentioned their husband just turned 29....maybe it was Whirl???? LOL, I don't know....
Anyway............how long have you two been married? Yeah the babies of the family usually are more spoiled!! Especially boys!! Ha ha,.....wait.......I'm the baby in my family, lol............actually My Mom always babied my brother (middle child) the most because he was the only boy........he's 9 years older than me and my sister is 10 years older than me. Actually my brother is the most miserable person in the world. Divorced father of 4 and he has 3 of the kids living with him. HE gets a girlfriend and ends up driving them away because he is so miserable. I mean he's funny once in a while, but it's rare!! Wow......sorry to ramble. I just love hearing about all of your lives, makes me feel like I know you more!! :)

SNOW...send it to me ..when it snows here ..its a freak accident that mother nature caused!
Shel...days like that make me want to make a BIG pot of soup, chili or something calorie laden, tasting the entire time its cooking and then eat it all day long! Also wants to make me bake . . love the smell of bread, cakes, etc. cooking when this fall weather comes.
Isn't it strange that when fall/winter weather arrive, our eating habits change entirely?? Or rather, your brain keeps telling you that its time to start eat differently b/c the weater requires different foods!
Or at least mine brain tells me that! LOL

Shel, thanks for asking. I made up my mind that I was not weighing til Sunday morning - after I've gotten a few continuous days of exercise in . . I dont' feel as bloated, but I did notice that my rings are tighter than normal. I don't know...perhaps I'm retaining water for some reason, and AF left Monday. I've got some OTC water pills and I may take one tomorrow if my rings are still tight. :(

Snoopy, you know what, I think that OLDER parents make wonderful parents! They are more patient and at this age.....its like having a REAL LIVE BABY DOLL!
My niece was in the same boat as you 2 years ago...and no way was she not not going to have the baby. she is still not married, the baby turned 1 in August and he is ADORABLE ....fortunately motherhood comes to her naturally....she never needs to ask anyone anything...the child does not know how lucky he is that she had a nac for motherhood! GOOD FOR YOU!!! :)

And smelling food for dinner in the oven.........
My dream life, all being naturally thin with a high metabolism and lots of money so I don't have to work kinda dream..............

Thanks you guys for the congrats on Carter. I'm not sure when I will get to see him, he is over two hours away but my DB is sending me pics over the net. He had a thing called the Carter Cam, it was so cool because we got pics of her (the Mom) in the hospital and right when he was born, I have never seen anything like that in my life!

AP!!! Whats wrong hun??? (((AP)))
Whirl I totally agree with the season changing food habits. When fall comes I wanna eat soup, stew, chili and other warm things! Coffee in the morning is something I do often in Fall/Winter. Winter also brings snowmobiling back into my life, which I LOVE! My parents, aunt, cousins, and I all go up to Old Forge and stay in a cabin we rent for the winter. We'll ride for the whole weekend and we always stop at the pubs on the trails! Snowmobiling reminds me of beer, wings, and french onion soup!!! MMMM!!!

And as for not working, that is a good dream also..don't know if you know, but I know I mentioned on the board before, but I was just fortunate enough in the last 2 years to retire at an early age - 47- worked every day since I was 16 and since DH's children are grown, the college funding stopped and everyone is on their own...he told me I could quit work....it took me a while to actually give in..I had been independent for a VERY long time and it was tough ...but I do enjoy it now.. my old job calls me in once in a while to help out with a few cases now and then....and that is enough for me!

Now, about stopping at the pubs along the trail . . :nono: LOL...send me that beer, wings and french onion soup!
TO AP: guess you'll have to start a NO SOUP, CHILI, STEW, AND CHOWDER THREAD CHALLENGE WHEN WE START trying NOT to eat all of this warm weather food...LOL
Shel, I don't think men ever really grow up! lol! No offense Roy haha! My dad is 45 and I swear, my mom feels like she has to take care of him. He doesn't even know how to do his laundry. She always says to me..."I sure hope nothing happens to me Shannon, for your sake." LOL!!!
MMMM!!!
I'm laughing....mine is 60 and he was adopted and was VERY spoiled..about the laundry..forget it..but I'm still blessed to have such a wonderful husband..and men...the NEVER grow up...he is BUILDING HIS OWN CAMPER right now...seriously..no kidding LOL
SnowK...I want to go snowmobilling with you! I've never been since I've never lived where there is snow durng the winter..we have SNOW FLURRIES perhaps 3 or 4 x/s a year...no accumlation..unless real FREAK!
