I tried the aqua classes a few times at my gym...they're really fun, but the age difference between me and the next person was about 40 years! lol! But all the people in the class were really nice.
I didn't find that it felt like a workout personally...yes I was moving around, but I like the hardcore step classes and weight lifting classes. So I would say, give it a chance...I do the odd aqua class still when I'm feeling tired or sore, but I still want to get some kind of a workout.
I love being in the water to begin with so I think it's worth a try.

I did water aerobics at the university as a fitness class. I love swimming, and I took two times swimming class, so I couldn't take the same class again. In my opinion, water aerobics are great for people who had back injuries (or any other type) and looking for an exercise without having the weight that any land activity has. I don't think it is a good activity to lose weight. I rather prefer to do some laps that water aerobics.

for a heavy people like me 265 lb./5'7" is hard to work with the regular aerobics routine but in the water is more easy i start water aerobics three weeks ago and i feel good , our coach make us work hard and when you finish after an hour you feel tired but it take off the stress,
I ordered the Atkins book to star next monday i hope i can loost weight.

When I was in high school and it was super cheap to take aqua excersize classes, I took as many as possible. I did deep water running, aquasize, and aquastep. I LOVED them, wish I could go at it again for as cheap. It was so great to get in water and be able to move like a 125 lbs on land person. At 250, I was not one to be light and non jiggly, so being in the water was a great upper for my mentality. I have no idea if it did anything weight wise, as I had medical problems that weren't fixed so nothing helped...but I loved it nonetheless, would reccomend it to all overweight individuals that feel jello conscious on land... http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/dance.gif

Hola Martha,
I think that water aerobics is fun, but it didn't help me to loose weight.
On the other hand, deep water running is a great workout to loose weight. I used to do some when I was in swimming class and it was an extreme workout. The following day I felt pain all over my "precious" body... hehehehe :)

PD: Martha, me da mucho gusto que hayas comenzado tu regimen de salud. Comenze el mio en Sep 2, y sigo la dieta de Atkins. Welcome a board!

I have a friend that went to water aerobics and lost like 60lbs or so along with eating right. It does'nt seem like a real work out but actually it is just as good for you as not being in the water and for some people it is better because you feel lighter in the pool. So I would definetly keep up with what you are doing along with your atkins diet and Iam sure you will see some kind of results. Good luck!!
