Anyone have any tips on how to avoid late night snacking?
I go to sleep around midnight b/c I don't have to wake up until 8am or later, and around 9-10pm I always get hungry and have big cravings, regardless of how much or what I've eaten during the day. I think it's completely affecting my dreams of weight loss especially b/c I tend to crave naughty foods at this time.

I had the same prob, I would do great all day then it would be "snack time" the killer for me. I went to the grocery store and stocked up on popcorn(light), pretzels, grapes and Low Fat Frozen Yogurt. Now when I want to snack I have a little bit of variety. I found it the harest because my DH is also a snacker, but he seems to be able to eat what he wants and not gain a pound  so I had to practice willpower. Honestly it was difficult for the first 2 weeks but it got easier and I do not even crave the "unhealthy" snacks.

You could try what I do. Have a healthy snack mid-afternoon, then don't eat dinner until 7 or 8 oclock. You'll still be full around 9 or 10, and it helps cut back the snacking.

The late night snacking is likely the result of your body getting tired. If the body feels deprived of sleep, it often craves food for energy that it's not getting from sleep.
I would say try eating dinner a little later or going to bed earlier. Since you don't have to be anywhere really early, you could try going to bed earlier, getting up earlier, and enjoying those hours in the morning doing what you would normally do from about 10 to midnight.

Eating before bed is one of the worst things you can do, especially anything sugar/flour related. Within the first two hours of sleep your body releases 80% of its growth hormone. That hormone causes muscle to build instead of fat, causes redistribution of fat away from the central belly region, decreases daytime fatigue, enhances memory as well as other important functions. Sugar in your blood blocks GH production so if you eat before bed you don't get that night's GH. Without GH, your job of weight control is made much harder.
If you have cravings for food at night it's because you are eating too much sugar (popcorn is sugar 2). Sugar causes you to crave more sugar and the only way to stop that is to go cold turkey for a few days on a low sugar diet. Then your cravings will decrease dramatically. That's one reason Atkins works so well, it kills cravings and puts your GH production back to normal at night.
