So....DP...between last night and today, you wanna know what I've done???
-wrote my vows!
-decided on songs for processional, recessional, our dance, dollar dance, the song they'll play when they introduce us...
-made a list of flowers I will need
-called the florist
-called the DJ
-called the photographer
-called the cake lady
-called the minister
-made resrvations for the rehearsal dinner

hahahahaha

Carried away??? Me?????

Mostly I got answering machines...and the minister is on vacation until this weekend...but at least the first calls are made...My fiance joked with me that I'm going to have everything done by halloween and then I'll have to just sit and wait for a year! i said ohhhh no, there is PLENTY to do to keep me busy!

I just want to get all the big things decided on, so we know how much $$ we're going to be looking at...ya know?

I think for our honeymoon (which we haven't discussed at all yet) I'd like to either drive the coast of New England, or go up to a secluded cabin in the Adirondacks. He knows someone who has a cabin...so that would even be free!! And it's beautiful, and looks right out at Whiteface Mountain! (are ya getting the Mountain theme I've got going on here?? hahaha) So we'll see how much it'll all cost. I really hate having to pay for this all ourselves! Well, my mom is going to give us $1000, and buy my dress, and my grandma is buying our cake...but still we're looking at a nice chunk of change to come up with ourselves. How the heck do people afford to get married!?? We both have good jobs, but still! It's really crazy how much it all costs!!

Well...back to work I go!

With Love,
Autumn

wow! you ARE busy! i havent done all of that!!! So whats your wedding song? I think we've decided on "i've got the world on a string" by tony bennett :)

it was between that and 'ribbons in the sky' by stevie wonder, but we didnt really want a very slow song...

our dj is done, b/c my fiances best friend is a dj...hes in the wedding, so he wont be doing it, but his partner will. so thats done. our photographer is pretty much decided. i havent done a thing with flowers yet, or a limo (we're only getting one for us).

so how many guests are we all having? mine is pretty small (or so they say), we have 90. it doesnt feel so small to be, but i guess it is! the good thing is, the place we are having it is the perfect size for 85-90, so it wont feel empty. itll be full! :)

10-02-2003, 05:40 PM
yes i am butting in here..sorry..i was just thinking about my wedding...
we really did have a small one and that was because of the expense...we got married in lake tahoe at a beautiful chapel, outdoors in august and we also had the wedding on a monday...one reason was because it was exactly on the one yr anniversary of our first date and also since it was a 10 hour drive away we knew only the people who really cared about us would make the effort to be there! there was about 20 altogether... it still costed us about 6000 but that included the motor home we rented for the week and the hotel rooms etc etc.... it is neat to hear all the excitement and energy going on in here!! :D

Dietprincess
10-02-2003, 05:50 PM
oh snoopy! that is so great that you did it YOUR way! i love that! so many ppl get sucked in to doing it the way they are 'supposed to'...or the way the families want them to. good for you!

im glad you look back at your wedding and love it!
thats what its all about!

I just wanted to tell you all about a wedding I attended not too long ago. It was a light purple. They had candles lit all through the church and it was in the evening. The bride carried purple roses and yellow daisies in her bouquet. It was time for her to walk down the aisle and everybody stood up and you heard..."We're going to the chapel and we're gonna get married"....She walked down the aisle to that song and I absolutely loved it! Then after they said the "I do's" and stuff, when they started walking back down the aisle together, everybody rang these little bells. They were cute, had a little poem attached to them. Then we went to the reception place and it was like the best party ever. I just wanted to share with you two. Oh, the bride made like $300 with the money dance. Good luck!

Oh, the reception hall was kinda dark and candles were lit everywhere there also. She also had clear Christmas lights on her indoor plants. It was beautiful!

Alright, I am now thinking about St. Lucia for the wedding and only having my Fiancee's parents and my parents come to witness/give away. After that we will come back to Toronto and have the reception. How does that sound?

Tried out an eliptical trainer today aswell as the bowflex and I may buy it to get weddingfit :)

Autumn26
10-02-2003, 10:46 PM
Stephy: I've looked at elipticals too! I really want one! But until we buy a house, there is no room!
St. Lucia sounds fabulous!! You better fill us in on all the details as you get them!! :)

DP: My fiance sings in a chorale, and knows a tona bout classical music, so I told him he should be in charge of the music 100%...he said he didn't want to do it all alone...(i think he's afraid of me...hahaha just kidding!!) So tonight we went over a ton of music...he wants Canon in D for the processional...for the recessional, instead of something upbeat and bouncy, we'll exit to Louis Armstrong's "What a Wonderful World." I think there is no better place in the wedding to play that song than right after we are announced as husband and wife. So we'll take our time going back up the isle...it'll be great. I THINK we will dance to "Longer" by Dan Fogelberg...do you know that song? I love love love it. He picked "I Am Your Child" (I'm pretty sure that's the title...) to dance with his mom...she's a HUGE Barry manilow fan...so she'll LOVE that...and it's a really sappy song...everyone will cry! We picked a few good Dollar Dance songs, like "Take the Money and Run" (Steve Miller)..."Get By With a Little Help From My Friends" (Beatles)...and "If I had a Million Dollars" (Barenaked Ladies)...that should be fun!
DP: Are you getting a deal on your DJ since you know him?? That's awesome...they're really expensive! :( We don't have a guest list yet, but I would guess we'll have around 100 people...120 tops. He has a really big family...Though I love the sounds of 90 people! I say the fewer, the better....20 sounds even better, snoopy!! :)
Well....this is getting long, so that's all for now!!!
With Love,
Autumn

longer? hmm..i dont know it by the title...i'll have to look it up online...

very cool...i love the idea of 'what a wonderful world'! i actually considered that for our wedding song (well, thought of it, not really 'considered' it..but it came to mind. its such a beautiful song!). We're in a church, so we're stickin with the traditional organ stuff...whatever those songs are. :) Im not going to be listening to them anyway, im sure i'll be blank at that point! lol! :)

jojo! yay candles and evening wedding! thats what we're doing! im loving the idea more and more! at first i wasnt happy about a friday night, but now its starting to sound better! :)

Dietprincess
10-02-2003, 11:01 PM
stephy, i hear st. lucia is beautiful!!!! that sounds so private and romantic! then party hardy afterwards when you get home! sounds like a plan!!! :)

Autumn26
10-02-2003, 11:07 PM
DP: I'm glad you're happy about a Friday night wedding...I think it's going to be really pretty with all the candles...hopefully there will be a fabulous sunset when you guys walk out of the church?? What time will that be? Around 6:30 ish? Sunsets=great photos!!! How awesome. You're right about not really hearing the music that's played for the ceremony! We will be in another world!!
Are you guys writing your vows?

Dietprincess
10-02-2003, 11:08 PM
oh, one more thing, jojo! i love those little bells. i was just in michaels the other day and had them in my hand, but didnt have the money on me :) im going back for them though! BUT, im using at the reception. im placing them at the seats, so everyone can ring them, instead clanking the glasses :)

Dietprincess
10-02-2003, 11:10 PM
haha, are you online right now?

no, we're not writing our vows...i love that...but i like the traditional ones as well..so we'll go with them ! (sans the obey part!) :)

Autumn26
10-02-2003, 11:14 PM
yes I'm online now..hahaha

I like the bell idea too! Very different to have them at the ceremony, that's cool!

I like the traditional vows too....without OBEY, like you said! Unless he would say OBEY, too! hahaha not likely!! I wrote some and I love them...but I haven't told him that we're writing our own...and he may very well say no! (See how the "OBEY" would come in handy??? hahaha) He can be kind of quiet, esp. around lots of people...and he can get pretty emotional...he might be afraid he'd cry...I don't know...I've got time to work on him though!! hahahaha

Dietprincess
10-02-2003, 11:15 PM
haha, yea, my fiance is the same way! thats why im not even going there with the vows! lol!

Sugarsweet: It's great that your fiance is helping you with the planning! Makes it much less stressful for you...as long as you trust him to do his tasks correctly...hahahaha You're right about writing your vows now, before the anxiety sinks in too much! Your finace is okay with writing and reading his own vows? Will you see what each other has written before the wedding?

Autumn26

DP: Dreaming about it at night....daydreaming about it during the day...talking about it every chance I get...and you're right...I love it!

LOVE it!!

:)

Have a great night!!

You ALL sound like you are getting SOooooooo excited.

Question? ...has anyone started deciding what the reception "food" will be????? :) Other than cake?

I love everyone's ideas so far....everything sounds wonderful!!!

Don't forget to have someone pack you a cooler of food from the reception that you can take with you - or either have them freeze some of the stuff is you are leaving immediately for H/Moon! b/c you will not have time to enjoy your food selections - you'll be too busy getting hugged, kissed and oooohed and ahhhhed at!!

ITS THE WEEKEND....and sooooooooooooooooooo

thanks whirl!!!!

yes, we are having chateau briand and chicken francaise. we actually went for a food tasting before we booked it and it was fabulous! :)

so i have a question. there are several things that we have decided not to do. most of them wont be missed. but one might be a little weird. i am not having a receiving line at the church. i HATE them. AND we have no time for it! (1/2 hour between the church and the reception and it takes 20 mins to get there...w/out traffic!...and its a fri night, so there will be traffic!) So, how do we leave, and just get in the limo and go? just do it?

Whirl
10-03-2003, 02:59 PM
I LOVE YOUR FOOD...I' COMING!!!

I think that once you exit the church... I think JUST DO IT...leave !! Taht way, you'll have enough time to have a private toast to each other on the way to the reception...have a bottle of champage in the limo and have a romantic toast to each other .b/c after you get to the reception, you'll be engulfed by everyone until you exit your reception! - I like your idea of NOT having a arec. line . . . don't blame you one BIT
I HATE THEM tooooooo!! They can kiss and hug you at the reception!

Shel1974
10-03-2003, 03:05 PM
DP good for you for NOT having the receiving line. I always hated them toooooooooooooooooo!!! Actually the last wedding we went to we snuck out the side entrance so we wouldn't have to go through it. We only knew the groom, so it would just be weird.

Autumn, we had canon in D for our wedding tooooooooo!! I love it.

I love this thread!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dietprincess
10-03-2003, 03:09 PM
im worried about being rude, but the guests will probably be thrilled to not have to go through it! lol! :) ok, thats what i'll do then, just go ahead and leave. and yes, you are right....itll be our only alone time for hours! we thought about letting my kids come with us, but i really think we need that 20 minutes to ourselves! :)

ok what the heck is canon in d?!

Dietprincess
10-03-2003, 03:35 PM

im listening to my wedding song right now :)

Hi DP!

To the person about the cameras.....I bought mine from Sam's...they have a wedding package w/disposable cameras and other things. (I can't remember what all came with it, I was married a little over 2 years ago August)
But good luck to you all. It is the #1 very special day, well other than having a child.

Autumn26
10-03-2003, 07:52 PM
DP: We're not having a receiving line either. We've always hated them and don't want to annoy our guests! We are going to make sure we spend a little more time than usual at each table....we're not having THAT many people there, so it should be ok! And you'll have even fewer people than us, so you're gonna be FINE! After the ceremony are you taking pictures at the church after the ceremony? Or just leaving for the reception? If the traffic in your area is really bad you might consider an escort...the only reason I think of that is because we do that for funerals...they aren't too expensive at all...and usually our local police will do it at no charge...just a thought!! You'd look really important in your limo!! hahaha

Dietprincess
10-04-2003, 08:36 AM
hmmm...not a bad idea autumn. i'll have to see. im not sure if we'd be going with, or against the traffic.

see, i'd like to do pics at the church...but how do we do that w/out a receiving line?

ok, so not only am i dreaming about MY wedding, i seem to be dreaming about YOURS as well! i woke up with "Longer" in my head! and i never even looked it up! i just realized what it is! hahah! "longer than theres been (something)...I've been in love with you" RIGHT? hahaha..that is SO funny that i just suddenly realized it and had it in my head! lol! BEAUTIFUL!!!! SOOOOO romantic!! i bet everyone cries! yay!

so i was online yesterday looking at cakes, for fun, b/c my place makes it, but i found a BEAUTIFUL cake that was called 'autumn'! it had marzipan (i think) gourds and pumpkins and leaves on it! it was amazing! (they could have been something else, but i assumed marzipan)....i think im gonna see if my place can do something like that! im gonna bring the picture. they had a book of stuff to chose from, but said they can accomate most requests! yay! :)

i also decided, instead of doing white flowers at the church (im really only doing two on the steps and thats it, mom insisted..and shes paying for my flowers, so hey why not! LOL)....anyway, im gonna do fall arrangements. this way, we can take them home and enjoy them,....instead of white ones, ya know. yay! and theyll look beautiful at the reception too! yay!

haha..ok, WAY too early for me to have all these ideas! see how i dream about it! lol!

Autumn26
10-04-2003, 08:50 AM
DP; hahahahahahaha I'm cracking up over here that you woke up with "Longer" in your head! Yes, you've got the right song! I'm glad you like it...and yes, I think everyone will cry!!! hahaha You've really got to look up Canon in D, though...when you hear it you will recognize it...it is so beautiful...the perfect processional. I definitely don't want to walk down the isle to "Here Comes the Bride"
Good idea about the fall arrangements!! And the cake sounds really pretty!!! You can't go wrong with a fall theme, can ya?? :) The cake I have chosen (well, the cake I WANT...I haven't talked to the baker yet!!) is very simple...champagne colored icing...and it has these deep orange/red colored roses and fresh grapes flowing down the sides and on the top...and the top also has this arch that is made out of grapevine...it's really cool! My grandmother is buying our cake, so....
hahaha :)
Two ideas for your receiving line problem:
My fiance's brother didn't have a receiving line when they got married...after the ceremony, they came back into the church, while everyone was still in their seats, and went pew by pew and hugged and kissed everyone and thanked them for coming...kind of a reverse receiving line...it was really neat...made everyone feel special...but it did take a little time, and it sounds like you don't have much time after the ceremony and before your reception? Another idea would be to say in your programs that there wont be a receiving line at the church, and that you and your new husband will greet everyone at the reception...then there wont be any confusion...after the recessional, you guys duck into a room somewhere until everyone leaves or something! (cuz if people see you they will stop and hug and congratulate you...then you may as well have a receiving line!) then when they are out of the church, you guys head back in and take your photos...
how is that? Just some ideas!!

Have a great day!!!
Autumn

ooh i cant wait to hear whirl!! my mom went to a wedding recently and LITERALLY took notes! lol! :)

ok, i found canon in d. still dont know it, but its pretty. i like the traditional wedding march though :) yes, here comes the bride, thats me! lol! :) maybe i'll have my girls walk down to that though..i hadnt even thought about that.

Autumn26
10-04-2003, 05:12 PM
Whirl: I can't wait to find out if you get any good ideas at the wedding today!! :)

DP: So you're a traditional Here Comes the Bride, kind of girl, huh? :) not a thing wrong with that! I actually like hearing that in a church, played on an organ, like it will be for your wedding..bet because our ceremony will be outside, we'd have to have a recorded version of it, and it just wouldn't be the same...so that's why I chose a different song. It would be cool though for your girls to process with Canon! I'm such a huge fan of that song.

My matron of honor, who just got married in AUgust stopped by today with a huge box full of wedding books, catalogs, and magazines...I've been pouring over them all afternoon, and my head is spinning!! There are so choices of EVERYTHING!! hahahaha I am so glad I already know what I want to do for just about everything! Otherwise I'd never be able to choose! But I love looking at the dresses! It's really exciting!

DP-were you aware that wedding gowns go on sale at the end of a season? I wasn't....my florist was telling me that between now and Christmas will be the perfect time to shop for fall dresses, (bridesmaids, too) because they'll all be on sale, so the stores can make room for their spring lines....I'm going to take her advice and start looking earlier than I had originally planned! Something to think about! :)

Heading out to my fiance's house...(which will soon be OUR house!! yea!)
Back later!

Hi, I've been reading this board for a few weeks now, just getting some ideas. My husband and I have already married in March. He's from Australia and I'm from the U.S. so we had the first one in Australia with is family, and the second one is this December for my family. I bought the dress in the U.S. last year while I was there and had everything altered but the waistline, just incase i gained or lost weight..I'm hoping i lose a little or stayed the same. Anyways, Our wedding for my family in the states was suppose to be in May outside but my husband and I couldnt make it due to his job, so I decided to go during christmas and have it then. We tried booking it with the church, but most catholic churches have you attend counselling before, so we couldnt have it in a church and it will be too cold outside around Christmas(We live in Virginia). So we're renting a club house. Its only a small wedding. 50 people. Mostly family and close friends. Since its near Christmas I thought maybe white and red flowers for my bouquet, but im not sure, My sister is going to be the matron of honour, and I dont know if i want the red and white flowers or flowers that will go with her dress. Its all very confusing, and were running out of time because its 2 months before December and she still hasnt got the dress. Anyways, Were just having lots of finger foods served out, instead of a sit down dinner since theres not so many people, and it gives people the opportunity to mingle and chat with other people. I'm not having the "here comes the bride" song walking down the isle either. We're playing one of Kenny G's songs. Its just the saxaphone and no singing. Its quite pretty. Also, my husband and I have downloaded songs off of Grogster or any of those music download places and we have picked out the songs and burnt them on to cd's and will play them that way instead of buying a wedding cd. Anyways, I dont want to make this too long. I'll let you know more about our plans later when everything gets a little more organized.
Take Care!
