Hey all I just started on the atkins program after thoroughly reviewing his book and such things. It's going great I don't seem to have any trouble with the diet at all. In fact I struggly to make it to 20 carbs dunno if that is good or bad or what but i am burning fat and those ketostix are great motivators. You know it's working cuz it's like purple. I've lost 8 pounds in the first5 days which is also encouraging and my face is totally dropping the weight however it was the least of my concerns but in time i know it will all come off.

Anyway I have a question. I know he said aspartame was not good but is it cuz of the links with other problems or does it really screw up induction. I found some no carb no sugar jello but it is sweetend with aspartame and i wondered if that would kill things if i ate it. I had one tonight and i guess the true test is if I stop burning my ketones! Anyway if anyone wants to get some support going that would be awesome I could use a backup system to bounce things off. I know there use to be one but it sorta petered out and i thought we might get another going?

Anyway thanks ahead of time.

I ran into the same problem. Everyone was talking about how Jell-o was a life saver for them in satisfying sweettooth. All I could find was Jello with aspartame.

I tried it and kept other things in the diet constant to see how it affected weight loss. I did notice my sticks show less ketone burning and so I stopped taking things with aspartame.

Hey thanks for the response. I'll find out quick. I know everyone is a little diffrent on what slows them down......some are slowed down by the bars others aren't so i guess i will just see what happens. I've been burning on from the really purple so we'll see.

Are you still on the diet, if so how's it going and how long have you been on it?
my mom and i are doing it together which makes things that much easier to do!
Anyway thanks again

Kim, I eat the sugar free jello but not that often. I really dont thing that will hurt you. I use the splenda in coffee and tea. Thats great that you lost that much so soon.
Im on it for 2 and a half months. lost about 19 lbs. I have cheated at times. Keeping my carbs still pretty low. not over 40 per day. 20 is too low to continue after induction.
I like the diet and its the only thing that has worked for me but I found that I did have to start eating some regular foods but only take small portions. Potatoes, apples etc. I missed it too much.
Have stopped with the junk food and really dont miss it. if I do good all week I can have a small piece of cake or something as a treat. I also walk 3 miles a day, usually 5 days a week.
good luck to you.

I use splenda and stevia (which is great in tea!) and if I am wanting something really sweet, I eat 1/4 cup of frozen blueberries- it really helps with cravings! Good luck!

Hi All,
I have eaten the Jell-0 ,and it hasn't held me up on weight loss at all. It's a good treat once in a while. I'm also going to try the stevia. From what Chipmunkis has said, and what I've read about it.It will be a good change.I'll use it in tea. I have never had a problem with Aspartame, but not much of a soda drinker.I use it in strawberries ,but very little.Just enough to take the tart taste out.
You all sound like you are doing great on your diets
Congrad's!!! sjg

Hey
Well there has been no effects from the jello. I try to avoid berries and such since I am in induction, I am staying on it much longer then 2 weeks as well. My health is fine and I feel good. I have a hard time with those 20 carbs a day still (making it to it)
Today was my one week mark and I have lost 8 pounds. I forgot to measure myself till i had already lost weight so today i will measure and go from there,. I got a long way to go but this first 8 pounds and the drastic change in my face has motivated me to stick to it.
However my brother and his fiancee are coming for dinner tonight and my dad and them are ordering pizza and my mom and I can't have any GRRRRRRRRRRRRR on them.......... We are contimplating pulling off the crust and just eating a bit of the top so we don't feel completly left out but i dunno. That might be cheating too...
Anyway good luck all

Try thin crust pizza if you can get them to order one like that. Then it isn't quite as many carbs as it would have been. That is what I did when a pizza party came up the other day. I didn't want to look stupid sitting their eating celery sticks, so I asked if they could get one thin crust. Then I used that as my motivation for working out hard the next day ;)

How about ordering yourself a big chef salad! It's a great alternative to pizza!

Just for inspiration: My brother has been doing Atkins for about 2 1/2 weeks and has lost 20 pounds already! He still has quite a bit to go but it's great motivation. Hang in there; it will happen!

Hey

Well I ended up just pulling off the skin and eating a little bit of it. It was fine. It satisfied the need. Although i was tempted to eat some crust. But I didn't give in. My mom and I found these atkins chocolate bars (like peanut butter cups) and I had one of the cups as a treat. They don't seem to slow me down (and neither does the JEllo YAY)

Anyway i'm on day 8 now and I am down 10 pounds so I am really encouraged!

WTG Kimberly. You'll find that it gets easier the longer you're on it. after a while you won't even crave carbs anymore! It's a wonderful feeling; especially if you are a former carb-a-holic like me!

Best wishes for continued success!

Jen
