Has anyone heard about a new study done with people on the atkins diet? Supossedly those on atkins could actually eat more colories than those on low fat diets and not compromise weightloss. while the low- fat dieter's gained weight with more calorie cosumption. I thought the key to weight loss was fewer calories not carbs?????

Hi there! I am not on his diet but I do low carb! Boy let me tell ya, YOU LOOSE BIG TIME WEIGHT!! Or at least I do. Everyone is defferent so it all depepends! I love my protein diet! LOL :D

I use to think the same way as you do years ago.But after starting Atkin's .You sure learn a lot. You will also learn a lot from the people on this board, and all they have been through trying to get the weight off.So hang in there,and you will find out a lot about carbs.There are a lot of people on here ,that can explain it to you a lot better than I ever could.I've read the book on Atkin's diet so much I think eventually I'll have to buy another one.This one I have is worn out already.So keep reading. Btw I have a Dr.who is very supportive of Atkin's die. It seems the medical profession is accepting it more.

I am on atkins also. I have tried counting calories, low fat and nothing worked for me. so far, by cutting carbs I lost 21 lbs in 2 months and thats with cheating also. My dr did atkins and he lost 40 lbs. he told me that if I want to lose weight to cut the carbs , they are what puts the weight on you. I dont even count the calories that I use every day. just the carbs. I think if you try atkins you will get results . its a tough diet for the first 2 wks. Im on it now going on 3 months. I cut out the junk food. I do eat it once a week as a treat. I walk 2-3 miles a day for 5 days a week. Im still watching carbs and counting them but Im not strickly on atkins now.
you can do it its not really that hard to do.

I think its a good thing that studies are actually being done now instead of medical pro's just saying that because it doesn't follow "conventional" thinking it must be wrong. Just because people have always believed something doesn't make it so. There are so many misconceptions about Atkins, such as you can never have carbs, which come from people who don't look past the Induction phase. All I know is that I am losing weight and inches, and feeling better than I have in a long time. I suffered from IBS for years and have had ZERO symptoms in the time I've been doing Atkins. I think I am better off listening to my own body than to the detractors :)
