I need to have surgery as soon as possible but my Dr. feels that my heavy weight is a big risk and wants me to lose some weight before surgery.
Now, I know I'll gain it all back if I do a diet for this purpose, but I really need this surgery done and that's the most important thing right now.
Any input on what type of plan to follow? I need to lose about 145 lbs (not before surgery).

I agree! I would go with something that is with medical reasoning! If not that try eating healthier and you probably will not gain it back after surgery. But one thing, I don't mean to be offensive or anything.... you should lose weight for YOU. Make YOU feel good by doing YOURSELF a favor. Not the surgery or the doctor! I know this may sound like yah-right, but just think positive! I hope this helps!

Melinda,
Did you ask your Dr.what he or she recommended for a diet for you? I'm sorry about your surgery!
You may want to try Atkin's ,or Weight Watchers, but where you need surgery.I think the best thing to do would be to ask your Dr. to recommend a diet for you.
Take Care!! Best Of Luck

Thanks for your replies guys,
I know that I need to lose for ME, but I also need to have this surgery and this is a good motivator for me, though not fun!LOL
The Dr isn't trying to be rude, just letting me know about risks of this surgery being so overweight. I agree and want to cut that risk down as much as I can.
He recommended perhaps doing protein shakes and lotsa fruits and veggies, but I really haven't found one I like.
I'll check out all the plans everyone recommended. I need to have surgery within 3 months so it needs to be something fairly quickly, but of course safe. Of course I know it won't all be gone in 3 months, but every little bit lowers the risk. Thanks again guys!! You are all great here. I love reading this site.
