Hi, I am really interested in trying the Atkins Diet. I know you can't post any links here, and it doesn't matter since there wasn't really much I could find in terms of "how to do..." I hear many wonderful things about it so I thought I might give it a try. I would like to, in fact scratch that to... I want to lose about 30lbs. :)

If someone has a bit of time, I would really appreciate it if you could give me suggestions on what I can eat and what I can not eat and perhaps how I should do this. I have the general understanding that taking out or rather keeping carbs to the minimum, is the key. I hear you should stick to some veggies. Meat, eggs, and cheese are ok. Oh and doing cardio at least 3-5xweek is excellent.

Ok, thanks for your time and good luck to all of you!

Hi, I have been doing low-carb for about 4 years.

You really need to get a book, either Atkins or Protein Power. It explains everything you need to know and I know that PP has carb counts of all the fruits and veggies. There are is also a chart to figure out how much protein your body needs and how to calculate how much is in meat, cheese, eggs, etc. You want to stay between 20-30 carbs for 2 weeks, then start adding in carbs by 5 per week as long as you are still losing. Never go below 20 carbs.

It is much easier to get the hang of it if you have a book to follow and to also understand the physiology behind low-carbing.

There are tons of LC recipes on the net. But the basics are: you drink at least 64oz of water + another 8oz for every 25lbs you want to lose, and drink it every day! Almost all green veggies are good, except peas. Nuts, such as macadamia, sunflower, almonds, pecans-but watch the carb counts closely. Nuts are great for the good oils in them. Limit cheese to no more than 1oz a day. Flaxseed meal cereal (1/4c. meal with water, a dash of cream, slenda, and cinnamon)is a good way to stay regular, plus get the good EFA's.

There are many more pointers, just hard to list them all!

Hey beebop, thanks for replying... I was wondering by what you exactly meant by "20-30" carbs for 2 weeks... 20-30grams total for the entire 2 weeks or 20-30grams of carbs per day?

I didn't know about the water rule... sounds great. Regarding the EFA's... I think taking deep sea fish oil pills are ok right?

Again thank you for the heads up!

The Atkins site has all the How-to info but its better to use in conjunction with the books... Make sure you get enough water and the essential oils and well as vitamins!!! Good luck!
