Well I just started but in 1 1/2 weeks I lost 5lbs. Just by drinking water until my eyes are floating, and eating a few salads here and there, but hey it worked. Monday I'm starting the SouthBeach diet. I'll let ya know how that goes. Good luck w/whatever method of weight loss you try.

What a coinsidence - I am starting the south beach diet tomorrow! Just finished reading the book and I think it will be perfect for me - and my diabetes. I usually watch the carbs anyway so that is a start. I lost 40 pounds last year by going to the gym 4-5 days a week and watching my food intake. But it just stopped. I quit going to the gym (will start back up this week) and luckily didn't gain any weight back but sure noticed a difference in the muscle tone. Please keep me posted on your progress with the sb diet and I'll keep you posted too!

i started the south beach diet last monday and as i am in college too. I am getting pretty sick of just having salads, omeletes and lunch meat. I had to alter it to fit to the school's menu plan which is stocked full of all the food's that I am not supposed to eat. (I believe the college WANTS us to get fat. You should see their dessert aisle!) I think I'll write a letter of complaint for all the low carb eaters ;) LOL
laur: you can do it! We just have to survive the college food. I am definitely hoping in not gaining that freshman-15. Ha! I need to lose a freshmen-15. Woohoo...we'll beat the college food system :D
JNL: sounds like you are already doing awesome! You keep working girl!
honeydew: right now, I personally don't have an inspirational story of any fantastic weight loss :P. Yet I see it this way: I don't want to listen to other people's stories. I want to be the star in my own story! Wouldn't it be awesome to one day tell people about your fantastic success? I can't wait for that day!

thanks sillynilly! i certainly agree that college wants you to get fat! i cant even get a simple piece of grilled chicken, let alone an omelette past 10 am! we should continue to share what we're eating and how we're doing since we're in the same situation..
thanks :)
also-- do you think its ok to eat the atkins low carb bars on south beach? and also ok eat the new Arnolds low carb bread??

for the first 2 week induction I would avoid them completely. After that you can have them, but have them in moderations :D
today was pretty bad...it was exactly what i had for the past 3 days!
breakfast: a hard boiled egg and a link of soy sausage (i can't eat pig/cow products =P).
skipped snack as i was in school =P
early lunch: a salad topped w/. cheese and ranch dressing (they don't provide any other dressings those big meanies!)
snack: low fat cheese stick and some low fat turkey lunch meat
dinner: omelete w/ white cheese and onions
dessert: frozen whip cream!
obviously cheese is a big asset to my diet! I can't wait until this week is over as i can include some good carbs every now and then :D

Good morning all! Well I didn't get to go shopping last night as my neice does my hair and didn't get done til' 9:15!!! I still have three girls in school so had to get them all to bed. My girls are 20, 14, 13, 13 and they are all wonderful!! Since I didn't get to fill my SB shopping list I had eggs and sausage this morning, that works. I really notice how the protein keeps me going through til lunch. I'm diabetic and if I eat anything like waffles it makes me soooo tired. That is one reason I think this diet will work well for me.
My stats are:
Started at: 315 (WOW!!!)
CW: 278
GW: 170
I'm 5 ft. 8. (used to be 5-9 but I lost an inch somewhere!!!:O)
Before having my fist daughter I was at 155 - 160 and that was thin for me. My hip bones stuck out! So I am thinking after all the babies getting to 170 will be hard but do-able.

Hi Honeydew!!
I 'HAD' a success story, lol. I lost 30 lbs last summer by counting calories. Kept it off til late spring when I had some personal problems. I have regained 15 lbs :(. I started South Beach a couple weeks ago, losing 1 lb a day, but when the weekend came we ate out 3 different times and I gained it back. My Mom is still doing the South Beach Diet and looks great. I re-started yesterday :). I also started taking CLA, hopefully it will help.
Welcome to the boards and I hope you enjoy it here :).

Hi Sue and Shel! This is great, more support!!!
You both sound like the veterans here - and your doing so well. All we can do is just keep on doing the best we can do - right? I am a walker too but haven't been being very good about it. My Jack Russell - his name is Ammy, loves it when I get up early and go walk a mile with him - I'll have to start doing that again, it is just so hard to talk myslef out of the nice warm bed to go out and walk!!!!
I'll also be heading back to the gym at least three times a week for weight work. I have five years to get where I want to be and I would really like to get there in two!!!

hey everyone.. glad more people are joining our new SB group :)
so far today ive done very well... but i really am craving carbs! someone offered me candy corn and it was sooo hard to say no.. but i did. ugh. i love candy corn haha
breakfast today was scrambled eggs with cheese and turkey sausage. i dont know if the cheese was low fat. i doubt it but there were no other options. also, is turkey sausage ok?
for lunch i had a chicken caesar salad! no croutons of course :(.. but it was still very good.
question.. i can only find whipped cream that is sweetened, however it only has 1g of carbs and sugar. is that ok? i hope so.. its sooo good. and.. i bought fat free, but not sugar free pudding since you can have that during phase 2. would that once in a while during phase 1 be ok?
thanks!

Hi Laur!
I tried to reply to you yesterday but the board was down for repairs!!! How is it going today? I finally got my SB shopping done and got some really yummy stuff! I don't know how you feel about fish and seafood but I love it. Had a wonderful salmon steak last night with asparagus - delish! I am not having any cravings as of yet - day two - but I don't eat a lot of carbs anyway because of the diabetes. That is why I think this diet will be perfect for me.
I think the turkey sausage is just fine - there is also turkey bacon that is good. Today I am trying some of the Vinegrette that is in the book, we'll see how that is as I am not a big vinegar lover!
I don't know about the whipping cream, but you might want to check how much a serving is. I am staing completely away from sugar - I usually do but more so these two weeks. I use splenda, it is the only sugar substitute that I have found that I like - no after taste.
Well I better get started on work today but wanted to reply to you and say:
GOOD MORNING EVERYONE, IT IS ANOTHER DAY!!!!!!!

about the whip cream: take only one serving a day. I only have some only if i went to the gym that day. I guess it is a kinda reward system I have.
Also for variety, i either have it frozen or out of the can. I like it frozen cause it reminds me of ice cream!
for the first week i suggest staying completely away from it as not to tempt you too badly to splurge on whip cream, then feel guilty and say "I ruined it anyways, I might as well indulge myself." I started the whipcream to distract me from cookies :D
Hope that helped!

Lost 70lbs this year after decade of MS and "diets" controlling my life. Actually very simple plan, no such thing as diet(things you have buy) you rather need to research just how human body works so you know what your dealing with. You get your body weight and x15 to maintain and x10 to lose. Your goal is to be able to do 4 cardio session a week and 3 weight lifting days. You take those total calories and divide it at least into 6 meals a day. Get alot of liquid like water, crystal light and try save carbs for every 60 days to do week of refeeding of carbs keep plateua away.

Hi Madara!
How long did it take you to lose 70 pounds? What are your stats? So you eat absolutely no carbs for 6 months then eat them for a week to re-boot?
Congratulations on the loss! What a great feeling that must be!
Please keep us posted on your progress - Are you at your goal weight now?

Hi Shazcole!
I am on my home computer tonight and have to use another name for this account so you will notice I am not honeydews tonight but instead dewshoney:O)
I am so impressed with your success!!! good for you! Do you use the SlimFast to replace two meals a day every day? Or One meal a day? Are you working out too?
I am always curious as to how people reach their weight goals - it seems that everyone is different and different methods work for different people -
I am really liking the SB diet - only my second day but I "feel lighter". I am drinking a lot more water and eating so much lighter. I don't feel hungry at all.
Please keep us all posted on your progress.
Oh - can you tell me, is the extra skin bad? that is one thing I worry about with me trying to lose 110 pounds, will the skin tighten as I go? what has been your experience here?
Thanks again for sharing with us - I look forward to hearing from you again!

Hi Honeydew,
You ask about the excess skin well yes it is a slight problem as in it's stopping me from going down another dress size (i was a 26 UK size and am now in a size 14-16)a 14 dress but 16 in jeans i am now in the process of trying to tone up no easy task i can tell you as i find gyms so intimating so invested in a multi flex compact machine that you wear for half an hour a day and it seems to be helping, plus i have come out of a 26yr marriage(he started up an relationship with an old flame and my new boyfriend new me before as big and now can't get enough of me so sex seems to help as well, you also asked about how many meal replacements i take well initially i was on 2 a day breakfast and lunch but for the last 2 mths have only 1 a day breakfast but i think to lose the last 14 pounds i might have to go back to 2 a day, but will see how it goes, i have so much more confidence now my ex husband can't believe how i've changed, i must admit he did help keep me fat as everytime i went on a diet he would sabotage it, so i suppose him not living with me helps, but now he encourages me to lose the weight and tells me i look great( his loss) anyway keep at it as i promise you it's worth it specially when i'm out for the evening and get chatted up by younger guys, who don't believe me when i tell them i'm 44 keep me posted and good luck......

hi,
I'll get in on the skin thing too. yes, you will probably have a few skin issues... I've lost a little over 100 pounds over the past 16-17 months (from 338-235), so it hasn't been extraordinarily fast. I have exercised almost daily in that time and have trained with weights pretty regularly. I am young--just 22 years old but I have had a weight problem virtually my entire life. I have problems with loose skin pretty much all over my body (arms, legs, etc.) but the worst areas are my chest and midsection.
But, you know what?? That is no reason to give up our weight loss goals! So what if we have a little loose skin--we will be healthier and happier if we just keep our discipline and stick to our guns. I am definitely considering some kind of reconstructive surgery when I am closer to my goal of 140 pounds. It will be expensive--but so would the insulin shots, heart surgery, blood pressure medicine, ventilator, and everything else I am avoiding by changing my lifestyle!
Hope this was helpful... :0)

Hello all! SHAZCOLE - Good for you in finding yourself again! It is your ex husbands loss!! and I really like the idea that your new guy new you before the weight loss too and is still there! I think that is really special, because there are so many out there that wouldn't give us a second look as "large" women but would love to get in our pants as thin women!!!! The lost skin issue bothers me a bit but it won't stop me from losing this weight. Maybe I'll win the lottory and be able to get tucks and lifts:O)
MOBELL - Welcome and thank you for your words! You have done so great - what method are you using to lose the weight? you are so young and have your entire life ahead of you - I'm very excited for you! Please keep us up on your progress.
To everyone, I am still working with the South Beach Diet and still find it easy to follow. I feel lighter but I am waiting until Wednesday to weigh as that will be the end of week one. I made up a recipe last night that was delicous: brown onions and garlic in olive oil and balsamic vinegar - add sea scallops and brown, add fresh shimp to heat and pour all this over fresh greens (not just iceburg lettuce), spinach, red leaf ect. and eat right away - is is yummy!!!!!
Look forward to hearing from all of you again!

Hello all, and congradulations on all your success. I have too had a recent lifestyle change. I have been on the Atkins diet for a little over a month and have lost 20 lbs. I have actually been dieting since the 6th of June and have lost a total of 50. I do have a lot more to lose but with the weight just seeming to melt off now I know I can reach my goal. I ultimaltly want to lose another 100 lbs. Just wanted to share my story and hope I can get some more inspiration from all of you!! :)

Dawnstar that is fantastic!! Your are quite an inspiration to me!! Sounds like we are trying to lose about the same amount. I have lost 41 and am working on another 110. I am so glad to hear that you are succeeding on the Atkins diet as I am on the South Beach diet and they are very similar. I love the eating plan! I feel so much lighter! I hope to hear back from you soon so we can give each other support. Everyone on this page is wonderful and what is really great is we all have the same goal - to get healthy!!!!to feel good!!!!and to help each other!!!

wow, hearing all these success stories has gotten me a little motivated too. i go through periods of "im gonna lose all this weight", and "i give up" i tried atkin's, but i found it soooo hard, only got to day 3.. (although i did lose 5lbs, but gained it all back on day 4 & 5, it was probably just water weight)does anyone have any suggestions on how to make it easier to follow?
im a new mommy, and i love everything about it except the 68lbs i put on while pregnant.. yes 68lbs and i was already heavy when i got pregos. ive lost about 25 of those 68lbs so far, but its already been 6 months. and im finding it kinda slow.. what do i do?? im tired of feeling so fat. before i was pregnant, although "big", i felt healthy and i danced and exercised. now, i just feel lazy and fat and like there is no hope =0(
hopefully this site will help me out with tips and support.
sw 269 (after my baby)
cw 243
final gw 170
for now i just want to get to 199.. just to see a "1" in front would make a world of a difference. im sure u all know what i mean...

Hi Drmuneca! Welcome!!!
I can totally relate to "baby" weight. With my first I gained a whopping 100 pounds, that was 20 years ago and I have gained and lost another 50 since then - I am now working toward my goal weight. The best advice I can give you is to lose it now - it truly does get harder as you get older!!! I am doing the South Beach Diet and I feel great. It is a lot like Atkins but a little more liberal I think. No counting calories or fat grams or carb grams. I am finishing up week one and haven't weighed in yet but I sure feel lighter and I have a lot more energy. As you can see I'm stuck on this - I love the plan so far!!! Due to diabetes I cut back on carbs anyway so it wasn't such a shock to me.
I hope you will check back with your progress or just to get some support - everyone here is wonderful with the support!~

Good morning all!
Well yesterday was my first weigh in since starting the South Beach Diet - 3lbs in 7 days!!! I feel like I have lost more but I am happy with that. If I can keep that up I'll be moving along quite well. That is without any exercise too, I decided to do the first two weeks without exercise to see what I can lose that way. Then after two weeks it will be back to the gym for me - that should step it up a bit.
Everyone sounds like they are doing so well!!!! I'm very excited for all of us!

I love reading all of your inspiring success stories. It makes it so motivating for me to keep going on Atkins. I have tried just about every diet out there, and this one really works for me. I have been on Atkins for 4 weeks and lost 17 pounds. I never thought it would come off this fast, and I really hope it keeps up.
Good luck...

I lost close to 65 lbs using slim-fast (well, now I gained 10 of that back, another story (read my post I'm frustrated,...). I lost quite of bit of that weight last year, and let me tell you the weight goes off much easier with excercise. Excercise just makes you feel better also. It is also important to identify your eating splurges (like mine is at work and right before bed). It is important to identify them and conquer them! I really wish you the best of luck, and whatever however you decide to loose the weight and no matter how much you loose be happy with yourself! We will be there for ya the entire way!
God Bless,
