I just recently had a urinary tract infection and was given Cipro for it. During this time, though, I started using some Oil of Olay bodywash that I've never used before. For almost a week now, my vagina and also around my anus has been itching. I was reading that some antibotics can cause vaginal itching and I was also reading about yeast infections and other vaginal infections. I don't see a rash of any kind or redness on any of my lower regions area; just itching. I also don't have any abnormal discharges with odors or anything. I just took my last dose of Cipro yesterday and I also stopped using the Oil of Olay bodywash this past Sunday, but I am still irritated. Does this just sound like a reaction to the bodywash or medication? Has anybody had this problem with a medication or either a fragrance soap? Does anybody know how long it takes for the itching and irritation with these types of things to go away?

Once again .............ANY TIME YOU TAKE ANTIBIOTICS you need to be sure to eat plenty of yogurt with live active cultures or take acidophilllis capsules to help combat yeast. Also soap or special washes are NOT recommended for the vaginal area. Since you have the itching you need to see the doc for a proper diagnosis. Just remember the yogurt next time you need antibiotics.

Actually, today, the itching is not bad anymore. I feel it a little, but not nearly like it was a few days ago and I don't have the urge to itch. I got some Vagisil and that seemed to help. I just started my period yesterday also, and I was reading that some women get itching around the time of their period, although this never has happened to me before.

blayleblaybe...
Yes yes yes! I get terrible itching before my period as well. A while ago I went to my ob/gyn because I just couldn't figure out what it was...I knew it wasn't a yeast infection and he said it wasn't after he checked on a microscope slide during my visit. He told me that sometimes certain women are more sensitive to the fluctuations in hormones and that can cause itching from the glands in that area of the body.
I don't know about anyone else, but it seemed to me that as soon as I turned 30, it was like someone flipped a switch and I started having all sorts of new "feminine" problems and sensitivities. I mean, I've had bad periods most of my life (started at 10 years old), but THIS is ridiculous....
anyway, I'm glad you found some relief...you are not alone!

I have had vaginal itching for about 2 weeks. Went to see the doc - said it was probably a yeast infection or urethritis.(?spelling)Anyway he gave me some pills plus so vaginal cream. It's been 24 hours and I feel worse. I also took some probiotic pills that a hollistic friend suggeted. Anyone else have this before?

It's not a good idea to use body wash when cleansing down there. That makes it more irritated. Just use plain soap.

mlgable,
What should be used in cleaning down there if soap isnt recommended?
I seem to have more irritation in the last year or so in the vaginal area and have switched soaps several times. Right now I am using Ivory and it seems ok.
Thanks
