Yasmin itself will not make you gain weight. No birth control should have that affect directly. However, how you react to the hormones could cause weight gain; esp. if you tend to eat for emotional reasons.

I would suggest that you monitor the level of your depression and speak with a doctor about possibly taking an anti-depressant while on Yasmin. I know that I suffer from mood-swings/depression using Yasmin.

I have gained weight while on Yasmin, but I'm not sure I can blame that on the Pill.

I'm on my second cycle of it, having switched from Ortho-tri cycline, and my weights gone down and I'm not bloated like I used to be on the other pill. Also, my pms is so much better. Now, I do get some physical aches (cramps, backache) but I don't get depressed the way I did on the other pill. My body may not be totally used to it yet, but so far so good. I do seem to have developed a discharge/infection thing, but I have a strong feeling it has nothing to do with the Yasmin.

I've been on Yasmin for 5 months and have gained 10 lbs. I'm like Chelle in that I tend to eat for emotional reasons and so I feel like I can't say for sure if the pill has been a factor in my weight gain. I have struggled with compulsive eating behaviors in the past, and I spent a lot of time facing that and working a 12-step like program with great progress and a sense of having overcomethe behavior. Simultaneously though, in the past 8 months, I've been through massive changes in my personal life, I became a first year special ed teacher and I'm very tired and stressed about work all the time, I started the pill, and then started having trouble with my eating behaviors again. This could be a result of all the stressors and the emotional turmoil, but I really wonder if being on the pill has increased that compulsive drive. When I have trouble fitting into clothes that used to be loose on me, I want to blame it all on the pill. Stopping the pill seems like the easiest thing to take out of the equation, but I just don't know if it's a prime contributing factor or not...I'm really thinking of quitting though. otherwise I just won't knoe for sure. Any thoughts?

I've been on yasmin for three months. I haven't gained any weight. I had a little nausea the first couple of weeks. After that the only other side effect i've had is breast tenderness. The doctor put me on yasmin to get my hormone levels back to normal and lighten my periods. So far so good. So it helped me in those areas.

I just switched from Ovcon to Yasmin yesterday, and my doctor said one of the benefits of Yasmin is that it has one of the lowest occurances of weight gain side effects due to water retention/bloating since it contains a diurectic. It should also eliminate any problems with acne. I switched because I was having a lot of mid-cycle bleeding and my doctor thinks Yasmin is a good pill to try for anyone with problems with other pills.

I have lost weight on yasmin. It is supposed to have a diuretic in it to help with bloating. I have not experienced depression on yasmin the way I did on Ortho -Tri or Ortho-cyclen. I am totally happy with yasmin - and it helps with my acne which is an added benefit!
