Is it normal to have heavy clotting during your period? I never did before. Asked the doctor and he kind of brushed it off. My cramps have gotten worse since the clotting and I have a lot of back pain. It feels like I'm carrying hundreds of pounds on my back.

Not sure if it's normal, but I have it and I know lots of other women do. I started getting clots shortly after the birth of my second baby and I was only 32. I'm 47 now and every few months I have periods that have the clots, so much so, that I'm pretty much confined to home for that day...but then I'm fine the next. I've had a D & C, polyps removed; and several endo biopsies that all came back negative.
I've come close to getting a hysterectomy because I do have an enlarged uterus besides, but I keep thinking that menopause is just around the corner (I hope) so I'm trying to put up with it.
All you can do is get checked out by your doctor or go to someone else if you aren't getting the answers you're looking for.

Many women do have heavy clots but this does need to be investigated especially since you are having other new symptoms along with the clots. If your doc won't check this out then find someone who will. Often times the clotting and pain etc is caused by endometriosis so is it a good idea to get it checked.

If there are no other causes, it can be just age. My gyno recommended an endometrial ablation. It helped enormously and is very low risk. A one-day procedure and no recovery time. For me, it saved my sanity. Ask your doctor.
