I started taking Yasmin in January and generally I love it. But I've noticed that every once and a while I get horrible night sweats, waking up 3,4,5 times a night with the bed completely drenched. I was wondering if the Yasmin could cause this. I can't find it in any of their side effect info, in fact, it is supposed to help perimenopausal women to get rid of night sweats. Has anybody experienced this? I'm only 36 and I would hate to think that I am going through menopause already!

Got a question for ya DenverGal....my gyno doctor changed my b/c pills to Yasmin because I was complaining of weight gain and severe bloating. he said Yasmin addresses these issues. Did you have these problems before going on Yasmin and has it helped? I'll be starting my 4th week on Yasmin and I've noticed nothing yet. Probably need to give it more time. Any thoughts? Btw...I haven't had any probs with night sweats since being on Yasmin.

At 36 you most certainly could be entering perimenopause and the night sweats would certainly be a good sign of this. Why not see your doc and have your hormone levels checked to find out if this is what is causing your night sweats. For me that was one of my first symptoms.

Ugh, I kind of thought that might be the case. I guess I'll get it checked out.

As for weight gain/loss - I actually lost about 5 lbs when I went on it. It does have a diuretic so it helps with bloating and they say the weight loss will be mostly water weight, but who cares, 5 lbs is 5 lbs. I don't know if you will lose weight, but I don't think you will gain.

To DenverGal- not sure if this is still happening to you, but I started Yasmin in about November or December and actually really like it a lot. I have been on both Ortho Tri Cyclen and Alesse and prefer yasmin much more. I do experience some general side-effects, such as breast tenderness, but no weight gain or moodiness. I am only 24 years old and am positive that I am not experiencing pre-menopause or anything like that. Anyway, I too occasionally experience drenching night sweats, as well. I have been to the doctor twice about it and he tested me for all of the possible causes of having night sweats for which I have none. Anyway, I began tracking them and noticed that they never occur during the week of my period when I am not taking the active pills. Yasmin (and my doctor agrees) seems to be the only explanation, since I never had them with other pills and they seem to coordinate with when I began taking Yasmin. Now, my doctor has never heard of this connection before and you are the first one who I have heard, besides me to have them as well. It is something you should definitely see you doctor about though.
Night sweats (except in women who are going through menopause) are really not that common and could be a symptom of a much larger problem. I hope this helps.
