I have always used regular soap to wash "down there" even tho people say you shouldnt. Ive recently had cystitis which Ive learned can be caused by using too much soap down there. So now I am reluctant to use soap but if you cant use soap then what can you use??!!! Is there a specific kind of soap you can use for that area?

I have no idea. I am not a genius, but I use soap, but only on the outside, and quickly was it off. Maybe I am not suppose to, but to be very honest with you, I have never heard that you were not suppose to. I have had no problems.
I, like you, would have to ask the same question?
I hope someone else answers you so I can find out too!
Good luck :)

You don't need anything more than plain water to wash the area. Yes soap and bubble bath etc can often cause UTI's as well as vaginal infections. The vaginal area is self cleansing so just rinse aka wash well with water only. Also stay away from feminine deodorant sprays too.

I have used Massengill feminine wash for years with no problems. Summers eve also makes one. They are made for this area and are very gentle.

If you're like me and you feel you absolutely must use some kind of cleanser to feel fresh, I use Johnson and Johnson's baby bath (liquid) for sensitive skin. I suffer with vulvodynia, so yes, I MUST use the mildest cleaning products available. And yes, the person above is right on about bubble baths, soaps, etc. causing infections. They disturb and throw off our very inportant pH balance.

I use baby shampoo also. I had a problem with getting yeast infections a couple years ago and it would burn like fire to use regular soap. I thought using baby shampoo would prevent that burning and it works great and I have used it ever since.

A dematologist suggested dove unscented soap. This is the only soap that I can use down there without it irritating me. My 13 year old daughter is the same way, any other kind of soap gives her problems. But the unscented one is fine.
