Hello all,
Right now i am currently on Ortho-Tri-Cyclen. mostly because i ddint know about the many different kinds of bcp's and because my doctor never told me any other kind. Well i've been on it since November 2002, and in the beginning it was kewl, but now i notice that i'm very moody, quiet, and get angered very easily. I'm on a 28 day pack so for 7 days i dont take the pill or sugar pills. During that week I'm happy, easy going, and generally feeling fine. So because of this I think its the pill that is doing this to me. So i was thinkg of switching to Yasmin. So to all of you who use it please tell me about your experience with it: all the side effects, the benefits, and most os all considering its a low dose bcp, do you still feel you are protected just as well from getting pregnant. I said the last line because i've heard many stories about woment getting on pregnant on monophastic low dose bcp's than typical triphastic bcp's. Thank you

Some women have had problems on Yasmin including:
Nausea, loss of appetite, hunger, break through bleeding, cramping, weight gain, weight loss, breast tenderness and growth, sleepiness, moodiness, anxiety, tingling and throbbing sensation in the legs, more acne, less acne, and more frequent urination.

I myself did not gain weight on Yasmin. (as I did on other bcp's) My face cleared up, I experienced some tiredness, more frequent urination at night (I heard this can be fixed by switching from taking it in the morning to taking it at bedtime) some moodiness (although, not as bad as I was on other bcp's) breast tenderness, and I did experience some throbbing in my leg.

I went off for a month due to elective surgery (didn't want to develop blood clots) but I'll be back on again when my period returns. In general this was the best BCP I've ever been on, and I've been on about 5 different formulations. One thing you'll find is that not just one single bcp is meant for every single woman. They all effect our chemistry differently and honestly it's a matter of trial and error when looking for a bcp that suits you. I highly recommend you tell you doctor that you want to try Yasmin for about 4 months and then you can try another formula if that isn't for you. If you look up birth control pills on your search engine, you may be able to find a list of birth control pills that are available. I believe there are about currently 50 different formulations available worldwide to women. http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif Best of luck!

Hey there
I've been on Yasmin for 2 months now, I'm currently on my 3rd pack and I hate it.
I was on Apri before, for 3 years, with no problems except for a noticeable decrease in libido.
Yasmin seems to have improved that aspect, however Yasmin is giving me such BAD HEADACHES and NAUSEA, and considerable LETHARGY, that I am going to call my doctor today to have her prescribe me something else. I can't even wait til the end of the cycle to quit.

Yasmin - LOVE it! It has helped to clear up my skin, I lost a little weight (like 3-5 lbs), no depression like I had with the Orthos.

But of course everyone is different, so you will have to see. As you can see from all the posts, different things work for different people.

Good luck.

It's nice to see these opinions on Yasmin. After a little over 8 years on Depo Provera, I am going on them. I start a 3 month trial the end of May to see if they are for me. I hope I like them really well cause if I am even neutral I will change them if only for the reason my insurance won't pay anything on them.
As for the side effects like the headaches and nausea, all of my research states that's normal for 3 months while your body adjusts so I can deal with that. Anyone else have some positive results from Yasmin?

hey guys does can anyone tell me the names and doasage of other bcp's that are the same dosage as ortho-tri-cyclen but not a triphastic pill. I've been doing searches but i cant really find any info on other pills. basically i can only find info on the typical popular brands: ortho, aleese, yasmin, depro shots, etc.

Look at Ortho-Cyclen. I think it is the same thing as Ortho-Tri-Cyclen accept it is not triphasic. I think it is the same as the last week of piils, the dark orange ones - if I remember correctly. But you need to check and make sure.

I just completed my forth month of Yasmin. The first three months my stomach was slightly queasy. My face cleared up quite a bit and my husband is no longer afraid to say Hi to me ( I was having serious mood swings) My periods are much lighter although i had one weird one. Overall they have been really good. I haven't gained any weight. The only real problem i have with them is the increase i have gotten in my breasts. They are a cup size larger (not that thats a problem) It's that they are really sensitive and sore. I feel like i did when i was breast feeding my son. It sometimes feels like i'm too full and i need to nurse a baby. My husband of coarse likes the increase but he is sympathetic to the soreness.

trublue,

in terms of the dosage you ask a tricky question. are you referring to the estrogen dosage, because there is a progesterone dosage in each pill as well. if in fact you are talking about estrogen, it's still difficult to compare pills strictly this way because you have the estrogen dose, but also the progestin in the pill (depending on which type and dosage in the pill) will also affect the estrogen effect (it may add to or take away from the estrogen's activity). so pretty much you have to not look at the dosage, simply, but the effective "estrogenic activity" found in the pills, which is a combination of effects from the estrogen, of course, and the progestin. from what i've researched, then, the other pills that have similar amount of estrogenic activity compared to ortho tri-cyclen (which by the way is considered to have moderate estrogenic activity) are: Ortho Cyclen, Lo-Ovral, Nordette, and Desogen/Ortho-Cept. all of these are monophasic and are all rated moderate in terms of estrogenic activity. i hope that helps!

barefoot_gal,
thanks for the info. i think i'm either gonna switch to yasmin or demulen 1/35. mostly because i want to stay away from pills that are similar to ortho-tri-cyclen since i belive that its the estrogen level in them that is giving me all the mood problems and irratabilty. but if you know anything about those pills feel free to give me the info. thanks again

Im on my 3rd month of Yasmin and I like it. Ive started having orgasms, something new to me, even after 2 kids. I pee more at night, have some nausea and heartburn (very mild) hasnt made my skin break out, Im a bit moody, but overall, this pill isnt making me a basket case like some of the other ones Ive tried. And my boobs went from an A cup to a B. Very nice side effect that my hubby really likes. lol

i bet he does hillary. well everyone my appoint with my doctor to change my bcp is on the 19th. i still dont know which one to switch to, so i guess i'll have to talk to my doctor more about that. my only concern now is if a lower dose bcp has a higher rate of failing. any response?

- Skin was less oily
- Much shorter periods (about 3 days)

Bad side effect:
- Weight gain of 8 lbs over 6 months

If you do a search in your search engine under "Yasmin side effects" you will find a dot com site that has several feedbacks from women who have taken Yasmin - not all of them are good. (I can't give the name of the site directly cause this message board won't let me do that).

I myself take Yasmin and have since January of this year. I was on for 3 months. I noticed acne break out on my chin the 2nd week of my very first pack and after that I was clear. I experienced frequent urination at night but I've heard that can be fixed if you take the pill before bed instead of in the mornings. My breasts hurt a lot and I think got a little bigger - and I believe I lost some weight while on it. Pretty much I was on whole very happy with it.

In March I started noticing some tingling sensations in my left hand and arm on occasion. I went on my non active white pills of my third pack like normal and I just happened to have elective surgery that week. A couple days after surgery I started up a 4th pack and by my 3rd pill I started getting the tingling and arm pain (it feels like a squeezing sensation). I stopped the pills because I got worried and thought maybe I should refrain from taking them so soon after surgery (I was worried about blood clots and such). I've just started up on what would now be officially my forth pack after skipping a month.

By the 3rd and 4th days I was experiencing the arm tingling and pain again. I took Tylenol and that seemed to help and it hasn't hurt since - but I'm definitely going to call my doctor about it and let her know. I'd like to stay on this pill if I am able.

Take a look at a list of low dose birth control pill formulations that I printed up on the Women's Health board and Sexuality - Women's board. 20 micrograms of estrogen is the lowest they make and it's just as effective at pregancy prevention as the higher doses of estrogen. I think the one that you've heard of being "not as effective" are the ones called Mini Pills which are just progestin.

thanks pandabaire. i'm sure if it was "low dose" pills or the mini pills that i heard about. but i was just reading testimonials from different women and they talked about how some women liked them and were recommending yasmin. while other swore up and down that it was not as good as typical triphastic pills. but then again for all i know those women forget a pill from time to time. like i said thank you and i'll check out that post of yours.

Thanks!

I took Yasmin for about 5 months. I hated it and at my next appointment begged to be switched.

It totally killed my libido. Turns out that happens to a lot of women - my gyno says almost everyone she's prescribed it for has had some loss of libido. I also experienced bad headaches and moodiness.

I switched to NuvaRing. I like it - I insert the ring and don't do anything for 3 weeks. Take it out and my period appears. I'm having very light flow for 3 days with NO cramping. But due to an interaction with a medication I will have to take for the rest of my life, I'm going to have to find a more permanent solution.

I was on Yasmin a little over 4 months and I have to say that although I had other issues with it that caused me to quit - I never had a loss of libido....in fact, and I don't know if any other women have experienced this on it...but I found that my orgasms were REALLY intense while on this pill. Also it worked for me for no weight gain and clear skin..unfortunately the arm pain and hand numbness and panic attacks were too much for me to take.

Pandabaire,
I went to the 'site' that you suggested about Yasmin side effects, and I must say, it has COMPLETELY freaked me out!!!! I'm on my second day of Yasmin, and I'm just sitting around WAITING for depression, breathlessness, sore breasts, nausea and bleeding. ARGH!
Thank you for advising me of the site, I just wish people had had some more positive experiences! I know you did, dispite the leg/arm tingling and numbness, which is a sure reason to quit.
I'm just hoping all will be ok with me. I was on Diane 35 in the past, will this make the transistion easier? (similar benefits/side effects of these two pills)
