Hello
I hope I am on the right board for this question. I am curious if anyone else here suffers from Adhesions. I have had numerous abdominal surgeries 3 c-sects, a hysterectomy, an oophorectomy, and appendectomy, plus 2 laproscopic procedures. My 3rd c-section Dr said I had extensive scaring and adhesions, He removed them. Then when a new Gyn did hyster. She said uterus was adhered to bladder, and a few other places. Then when she did oophorectomy about a 1 1/2 later she said right ovary was adhered to back wall and that I was full of adhesions again. I am now having those all too familiar pains again (about 3 mos now) and I have been getting the run around from Gyn I have had every test under the sun. But she will not do another lap to see if Adhesions are causing pain. I know my body is telling me that they are definetly back.
I was just wondering if someone else here may have similar problems. As I might learn something from them. Or what to ask Drs? Please I am desperatley seeking some support with this.
Thanks in Advance

I had large adhesions on my left side. My ovary was stuck to my bowel. I do suggest that you see a reproductive endroconologist! A gyn is O.K. but I found in my experience a RE is better for pelvic pain and disorders. They specialize in fertility so they are very aware of problems that occur in the reproductive organs. That is the only suggestion I have for you at the moment. Other than maybe see if you doctor would order an MRI to look for adhesions. Good luck.

i too, have adhesions, had them removed several times, i would just get more in another area. i'm getting ready for a hysterectomy, so i'm sure i will be at it again. my doc says it's the body's natural way of healing. isn't it fun being a woman http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/rolleyes.gif

I have adhesions too. It happens after surgeries and infections, and my doc told me I probably needed another lap but that "someone had to stop doing surgery on me." Every time you have a lap, or whatever, it will cause more adhesions. They are painful, and its a cycle we get in. Have a lap, get adhesions, have another lap to remove those, then get more. Its ugly. And ohhh yeah - great fun being a woman. :P

Thanks to all that have responded. Yes I am very aware of Adhesions and what causes them. I have had them removed when I had last c-sect99, hysterectomy2000, removal of ovary02, and appendectomy02, And now about a year later, they have decided to make their presence known. I know surgery to remove them only makes more, and can sometimes make your pain worse. What do some of you do for the pain?? It is amazing the pain they can cause especially since they are transparent, (look like something glued and then pulled apart before it was dry) I know their are probably alot more people out there that have them, maybe they don't cause everyone discomfort, but they sure do me. I agree with many of you just one more thing for us women to have to deal with.

i've had several surgeries, too and my adhesions cause me pain, too. Thankfully, though, not constantly. It's painful right before I start my period and then for the first couple of days. It's not endo pain, it's sharper and more of a burning, stretching feeling, I think. Also - if I do something strenuous that requires me to use my abdomen, I'll feel the adhesions - feels like they are pulling my insides apart, and sometimes that pain will last up to an hour afterward. I can't imagine having that pain daily. It would be awful! I've heard that warm castor oil wraps help. I keep meaning to try that, but haven't yet. A heating pad and a couple of IB help me a bit.

Hi,
Yes, surgery and some other stuff cause adhesions, so doing more surgery will not be an answer to getting rid of them, especially if you know in advance that you are an ARD (adhesion related disease) sufferer. Very few doctors are prepared to do the long and tedious surgery with specialised equipment... and a good adhesion barrier, that it takes to get rid of them. Unfortunately the best barrier, the one that seems to hold the most promise, SprayGel, is not yet available in the US. And if you don't have a talented surgeon and a good barrier..... there is use in doing the surgery. Some Americans are going to Germany to the Frankfurt area for this surgery, as there is a very talented surgeon, Dr. Daniel Kruschinski, who does these 6-8 hour long surgeries. From what I have heard, he is a real genius and a real humanitarian.

My story is here if you search for it.... Good luck in finding help and living pain-free.

Hello http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/bang.gif
Boy you really said it all. You are so very right, about it being tedious, and if you don't have a very good Dr and don't use barrier. It is no use because more surgery, just causes more adhesions. Sometime surgery to remove them can make your pain even worse.
I would love to read your story, can you point me in the right direction so I may find it. Thanks for your input. For now they are going to just manage my daily pain from them. But Dr said Surgery may still be in my future, to remove them. I guess I will have to wait and see.

What do they feel like? Because I *think* I may have them (from my tubal ligation 3 years ago).I have been experiencing a strange "thightness" in my adbomen (and not the good kind that comes from an Abs of Steel video)and when I lay down,I can feel "lumpiness" in my lower abdomen, near my hipbones, that is painful to the touch.I feel like I'm retaining water all the time but I can tell that I'm not,my lower abdomen is just going nuts,it's puffy and I feel like I'm pregnant (but I know I'm not...tubal ligation and all...).Anyone know what I mean?

My story is here on HB... just do a search for my name and see what comes up early on.... I've ranted and raved here a bit about adhesions! lol

Sorry to be short.... I'm not at home and my computer time is severely limited... Happy reading.
