I am becoming so frustrated from the bloating of my abdominal hysterectomy. Had the bikini cut, rather large incision. When does this bloating go down and the scar tissue built up around the incision ? Also seems like I will never heal. I have to go back to work in one week, and at this point I am still so uncomfortable I could cry. Help........

Hi Suzy -

I am sorry you are going through all this. Can i ask why you had the abdominal hysterectomy instead of vaginal or laproscopically assisted? I am having my hysterectomy in August, and just curious.

That said, everything I have read about this recently says that the abdominal hyster is much much harder to recover from than the other two. Have you called your doctor? What has he/she said? I think you need to schedule another appt and show the doc what you are talking about. Some people, women especially, seem to cower and not want to bother the docs, but this is what we and the insurance companies pay them for. I have had 3 laps and it took a good while for me to heal totally from those, so I can only imagine that it will take a good long time for you to recover from this. Just all your doc, and good luck, and I hope you feel better.

I had fibroids. One very large one, and 2 others. I did want them to reoccur and also am done having kids. They could not do the lip because of the one fibroid was so large covering my cervix up.

Since you are still having problems you should call your doctor and let him advise you on what to do for your problems etc. What did he the doc say when you mentioned this to him at your followup visit?

going to my postop in one week. which is the day i go back to work. i am really worried about going back. i thought i'd be in tip top shape by now, be able to work out and everything. from all the reading on women recovering guess it was all the lucky ones.

I had an abdominal Hyst in April. I went back to work half days May 12 and then full days the following week. Will your employer allow you to do that so you slowly get back to work.

As for the bloating. Your muscles are weaker now...has your doctor suggested exercises. My doctor cleared me for 100% activity 4 weeks following surgery, so I've been doing sit ups and it is slowly getting my stomach back into shape. Good luck! Feel free to email me if you want to talk more.

Hi I had the same hysterectomy in March and I am still not totally back to normal. My scar took forever to heal. The funny thing is that I had 4 c-sections so I thought that the hysterectomy would be pretty much the same as far as pain and recovery go. I washed clothes the first week home with a c-section but the hysterectomy really did me in. My scar kept getting infected and wouldn't heal. I am still on antibiotics off and on for infection. I have never had pimples before in my life and now I am covered. I don't want to bring you down but take it easy because it is hell on your body and the hormones will drive you nuts in the next few months to come. The funny thing is that my doctor never mentioned any of this to me. I think they just want to get you in and out of there so they can meet their quota of patients for the day. I would suggest you stay out of work as long as you can and make a list to take with you to the doctor. I need to do that because I always get home and wish I had told her something else. Anyway, I just wanted to share. Good Luck with everything. Take it easy. I don't work but I know I hurt for months just taking care of my kids. Take it easy!!
