Hi...ok, I hope I'm allowed to put this here, but I've tried several times to put my tampon in, and I can't get it in. I'm not even sure if I'm putting it in the right spot. When I tried I sometimes got a little bit of a burning sensation. Ok, I know this probably sounds gross, but could someone please describe to me what I'm looking for?? Or, I know this is asking a lot, but give me a link to a diagram of one or something? When I open the inner lips, I see this little thing, it almost looks like another little set of lips or something. I can't see where the clitoris is. Please help me, I need to know by tomorrow morning at the latest!!!

Okay...relax and breathe...it can be tricky at first but you should be doing this at an angle. The box does come with instructions and visuals on how to insert it. Without being too graphic, you would think of putting it in towards the front - but trust me, it ain't goin' there - you could only put in so much and that you can't go any further. Right behind that area is your target - don't go too far - that's also where it doesn't belong. The middle is the winner...when you're in the shower - try to look around - I know it'll be tough but grab a mirror...oh, and if and when you finally get it in, be sure it's as far in as possible cuz it'll hurt otherwise. Don't force it in - just ease up a bit. Also, it may make a difference if you use the plastic easy glide versus the cardboard applicator; I prefer the plastic myself. Hope this helps...good luck!

OK - first off, you have to relax. Nothing will work here if you aren't. Second, get a mirror, and look at the whole vaginal area. You will see your "lips", or labia majora (the outer ones) and labia minora (the inner ones). Also if you open your legs, you will the the urinary opening, at the top of the labia, and the vaginal opening (that's the bigger hole). Then you see the perinium, which is the little skin between the vaginal opening, and the anus. The tampon goes in the vaginal opening. When you are first trying to use tampons, it helps to stand and put one leg on the toilet to open things up a little, so to speak. Use a little vaseline on the tip if you want - it can help slide it in. No need to goop it all up - a little dab will work.

As far as the clitoris goes, it is under a little hood at the top of the lips, above the urinary opening. You might not really see it well as it is covered. Try touching around there - you will definitely feel when you find it. You might get little jolts or something similiar. That's normal.

I have never seen a really good site for this, or I would post it. But relax - all this is normal, and how you are feeling is normal. :)

Ok thanks so much both of you!!!!!!!!! I have to try again.....umm...I will not be able to use the bathrooms I don't think for about 7 1/2 hrs. or so-because there won't be any! Oh and I'll be in the water (on a tube or raft) for probably about 3 1/2 hours. My period's kind of...regular I guess, maybe a little heavy I'm not sure. I have Tampax Regular Tampons. Can I keep one in that long?? Thanks again SOOOOOO much!!! :)

I just started using tampons myself (I'm 24 and figured it was finally TIME!), but I gotta say I don't really see the point! I don't have especially heavy periods, but I have to wear a pad under one because I leak through after a few hours. Does anyone else have this problem?

One more thing about them....make sure the cardboard applicator doesn't get stuck inside of you! I had this happen last month. I thought both parts had come out when I inserted it, but the cardboard managed to stay in there! I went in a hot tub and everything....I noticed I was feeling uncomfortable and went to the bathroom to check it out. Sure enough, the cardboard was still on the tampon. I laughed so hard that I was crying.....I am so naive about this stuff!

Anyway, good luck....my advice is to wear a pad along with the tampon because they WILL leak!

Hi thanks for your reply! Lol :)

But I will be in the river for about 3 1/2 hrs....so I don't think I will be able to wear a pad, oh but I could probably wear one on just regular times anyway, thanks!! :)

Oh, for the leaking thing, maybe you're not getting one that absorbs enough? You know how like they have ones for when your period's lighter and when it's heavier and stuff like that. If not I guess you would just have to change it more often?? Check with someone who knows before you take my advice though! :) Hehehe! Good luck!!! ^_~

Tampons won't leak if used properly :) They will leak though if they are left in longer than recommended, or is the absorbancy isn't enough for your flow.
I have had the tampon leak so to speak, but when it did happen, which was a long tim ago, I realized it was a mistake on my part, not related to effectiveness of the product.

LOL EddieDean I can't even imagine having the tampon in WITH the applicator. That's a trip LOL!

Me602, I'd recommend learning more about your vaginal area and exploring. Another reason why you may have difficulty getting the tampon in can be related to how dry you are in that area. Dryness is an enemy when it comes to that sort of thing.
If you're period is regular to heavy, you might want to add the protection of upping the absorbancy. Go for something more than regular. It's no recommended you keep them in too long, but as long as it's not more than 8hrs you should be okay.
Good luck!

Hi! Ok thanks!! I tried it again but I'm still not sure where to put it in. That thing I described between the inner lips that jessilynn said was the pernium opens up, and it's pretty small. Also below that there's something, not my..anus. What are those? Thank you so much everyone!!!! And not to shun your guidance or anything, do you think someone could pull up a diagram or something for me? (I don't want anyone to see the searches on my computer and think I was using it for some other purpose.) Well, I look foward to more help!!! Tomorrow morning is getting closer and closer!!! Thanks!!

Hi Me -

Ok - clearly, I didn't describe this well enough. The perineum is the space between the vaginal opening and the anus, which, to be blunt, is your butthole. The thing in between your inner lips that opens might be the urinary opening, but I am not sure I know where you are describing. The other things you are describing - I am not sure. Are they lumps or is it skin? Where exactly are they located?

And yes - you should be fine on the water, and hope you have a great time. I wish I could be more help, but I am just not sure what you are describing.

I'ms orry to keep bothering you all, of course it would be me who makes it such a big deal. :( It is below the area where I pee I think, and it....kind of reminds me of a flower, it's little flaps of skin that look almost like another tiny sit of lip, except that you can pull away the bottom part too. I think this may be where the blood is coming from, but it is really small, and I don't see how I'm going to fit the tampon in if it is. I guess if it is I will since women have babies and all that stuff, but...I'm really sorry!! :(

Oh, and you know how if you look at it with a mirror....how it all kind of makes an oval shape, well, it's almost at the bottom where the oval shape closes.

And thanks for wishing me well on the river!!! :)

Hi there - what you are describing is part of the labia. Where the blood comes from is the vaginal opening, which is the biggest hole. That is where you will put the tampon. You'll be able to tell if its in there right - shouldn't hurt at all.

Hi, the hole is in the middle of those flaps I described near the very bottom of everything. I think this is where the blood comes out (that hole). You say what i described is part of the..something, do you mean the flaps or the hole? Do you think that hole I described is the vaginal opening? Please respond soooon! Thanks! :)

I got it in!!!!! Yayyyy!!!! I think it's when the string-gets moved around, I can kind of feel it, it's kind of like a teeny tiny burning sensation?? Does this mean I don't have it in right???

Well, some people of you know what my..uhhh..vagina looks like!!! So, so sorry!!! :} Thanks SOOOOOOOOOOOO much to everyone!!!! I was considering not going on the trip!!! Thank you God!!! Thanks again everyone!!!!

LOL Its ok - all vaginas look relatively the same.

If its burning just a wwee bit, it might mean you aren't lubricated enough, or it might be too big for ya. I don't have heavy periods, so I use the slender regular kind. I don't know if you have different sized tampons, but maybe tomorrow wear a smaller one if you don't bleed too much.

Just relax, and have a good time tomorrow. :) And wear sunscreen lol.

MUAH HA HA HA HAAA!!! No, just kidding!!!!! I'd only be hurting myself!!! (It'll be much more than that 5 ^_~) Any way, thanks again, I will try and have fun!!! :) I don't think that will be a problem though!!! Ok, THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOUUUU!!!!!! :) :) :) :) :) :)

Congratulations! I tried and tried when I was a teen and never could get one in until I was l8, lol! I sweated more hours over those things than I would care to say, all to no avail. I'm probably the only person on the planet who went through 20 boxes of tampax and never actually wore the first one.

Oops sorry jessilynn!!! I meant to put the smiling face!!!

Aw, I'm sorry!!! I went through quite a few tonight!!! I was getting so frustrated and upset!!!! I can't even imagine how you must have felt not being able to get it in for so long!!! :((((

Oh, just wondering, were you watching this whole thing as it progressed? Lol, just came to me.

Well, thanks again everyone! :)

I don't know what the deal is with me. I used a "heavy flow" one and it leaked through within a few hours. Then again, sometimes I use a normal one and I have little to no leaks. I guess it depends on the time of the cycle, the heaviness of that particular period, and what kind of tampon you use.

Anyway, have fun today! Glad you finally got it figured out....you are definitely NOT ALONE in having problems figuring out how to put them in! The reason for the burning sensation may be because you weren't lubricated enough, as someone else said. I usually wait until I get that pre-menstrual discharge before I put one in or I get the same burning you talked about. The first time I put one in was before my period started....I had no problem getting it in, but it wouldn't come out because there was no lubrication. I was home with my sister and she and I laughed our heads off trying to find a way to get it out of me. Everyone goes through the learning process...each time it will get easier!!

Hi!!! Lol, ok thanks!!! :)

Yes, the river trip went very well, except, I could like feel the tampon the whole time. .... Why?? I followed the directions till my fingers touched my body. There was a little blood on the bottom of my bathing suit too. ???

Anyway, did you notice the red face I put up there? We all got sunburned. I got some on my face, particularly on this one spot on my nose, my upper arms, and a whole bunch on the front of my legs...whoo I can feel it. And see it, heh. But it was fun! :) So thanks to all those who wished me well! ;)

Honestly - you might have felt the tampon the whole time cause you weren't used to it, or because its too big. Or maybe it was simply because you were thinking about it. And a little blood might mean it was in too long, too.

But other than the sunburn - didn't I tell ya to use sunscreen? - I am glad you had a good time!

Hey there,
First of all, thank you so much for the great thread!!! It totally took me back a few years. I actually called the 800 number on the tampax box to get directions!! They suggested putting a little vaseline on the tip and that would help it to slip right in and hopefully avoid the burning. It worked! They also told me that if you can feel it then it's probably not in correctly and that could be why you had some leaking. It took me forever to get to where I couldn't feel it anymore. I think its one of those situations where "practice makes perfect" so don't give up. http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/grad.gif In my opinion, tampons are way better than pads!!! Especially if you get the flushable ones. But don't forget to change them regularly!! You could end up with serious problems like toxic shock syndrome. Good luck and thanks again for the fun posts! ;)

Hey everyone!
im a brand new member, and i read the "me602" conversation..and i just started my period a couple days ago for the very first time and i was wondering if it was safe to use a tampon so soon. if so, i was thinkin about goin and buying playtex slimfits regulars because a while ago i got a sample box of them and i just want to know if those are good ones to buy. thnks--adn i just realized that that converstaion was a year ago--woops

hiya, congratulations in joining the joys of woman hood!!!!!!! it is safe and fine to wear tampons this soon, many girls do wear tampons on their very first period. The playtex tampons sound great, but you can get better ones. Lil lets make a regular tampon that comes in its own little pouch of lubrication so that its easier to insert. Thats assumin that you can get them where you live! if not go for the playtex ones or tampax. good luck

Ok, don't laugh at me, ok, you can laugh, just so long as it's not out loud. When I first tried to use tampons I put it in just like the directions said. I bought tampax regular plastic applicator. I came out and my mother asked how I felt. I told her that it felt, OK, but it kept slipping out. She was like, slipping out, what do you mean. I was like, well I don't know, it just keeps slipping out. So we went in the bathroom and figured it out. The plastic was still there. NO JOKE, the instructions on the box told me where to put it, told me to push up the stick all the way but did NOT tell me to pull the plastic applicator out after pushing up the stick. OK go ahead and laugh your head off, I was just following the directions. :D

I have always found the cardboard applicators are harder to get in. Silk glide or gentle glide plastic applicators are easy. The top of the tampon is covered by plastic so it glides easy. There are also teen tampons that are slender ideal for begginers.

You need to change it every couple of hours. Four hours is the longest it should be in there i believe. Also, I am a fan of the plastic applicators. They go in the easiest! the joys of being a women, lol. :)
