Doc cant get me in until next week.

Have been on Yasmin for almost a year and I love it!! It helped to clear up my face and I haven't had any other side effects. And I'm not dead yet!

Every birth control pill has risks of blood clots that can be dangerous and cause death worst case scenario. They all have that warning on the package insert. That is the only thing I can think of that is serious besides there being a higher risk of breast cancer while taking birth control pills and they all have that same risk. The Yasmin pill does have a different one I guess though because it causes increased potassium and that can be dangerous if someone has liver problems. It's all on the package insert though all of those warnings.

hey I am on Alesse and I was wondering why your doc switched you....is there something wrong with this pill I should know about? I got switched from Ortho-CYCLEN to Alesse because I wanted a lower hormone dose due to head-aches and dizziness. Lemme know

I take Yasmin right now - three a day this weekend. My situation is so unique that I can't really give you an evaluation of it. I hear it is supposed to help with mood which may be why my doc offered it to me when I was anemic and struggling with my moods. Or maybe it's just because he can get me a lot of it for free since he has an abundant supply of free sample packs. Oddly enough, I have the package inserts from his sample boxes, but they don't exist in the ones at my Walgreens. You may want to visit the Yasmin website and/or call them. I talked to them once about my doc prescribing me up to six pills a day and they called to check on me later.

Here is my thought about death and BCP's, though: if the risk of death was that high, would the FDA approve it for use? Maybe I am placing too much faith in the system, but I know there is a lot of testing of new drugs and many of the ones that could be beneficial get stuck in the approval process because of certain risks. I doubt the risk with Yasmin is significantly higher than the risk for other pills aside from the precautions they give on the inserts.

Ask your doc or the Yasmin people if you are really terrified.

I think maybe you are putting too much faith in the system. The FDA approving aomething means nothing to me. The FDA has approved aspartame and still allows msg to appear in food and there is so much documentation of how dangerous they are. How about trans fats that are allowed into our foods, why does the FDA allow that? Many European countries don't allow many of the things the FDA approves for us here in the USA. The FDA approved Norplant which now is off of the market because of so many problems. What about the IUD that was approved and then taken off the market? It is all about connections and who you know in the FDA. It didn't start out that way, it once was an honorable body, now it is corrupt.

I am not cynical but I have read to much to put my faith in the FDA. You have to be your own health care advocate and research everything. Thank God for the internet as there is such a wealth of information available to us at the push of a button.
