Hi! I'm new to the board, but have been reading it for several months. Finally got up the nerve to start asking some questions. I have a wierd problem that doesn't make sense to any doctors that I have talked to which believe me has been a lot. I have seen a regular general practioner, nurse practioners, gynecologists, endocrinologist, gastroenterologists, psychiatrist and psychologist. Quite a list. Anyway, I have even been to Mayo Clinic.
My problem is that about day 7 or 8 of my period cycle, I start getting these awful headaches in my forehead, cheek, back of neck and shoulder blades. The top part of my arm will ache also on whichever side the headache is on. I get waves of lightheadedness, nausea, fatigue, and very tense muscles or jumpy legs. I used to get stomachaches with loose stools every morning about 5 to 10 minutes after waking up and moving around in bed. Now I'm more constipated. I am on carafate which I think contributes to that. My thinking is foggy - like brain fog. My stomach gets bloated to the point I wish I could let the air out. Usually a lot of belching with this but not relieving. I call them fake belches. My intestines get so noisy they wake me up and I have a ton of gas usually very smelly. Also, my throat will start to spasm and feel tight and in turn feels like I am not swallowing my saliva because there's always extra in there. My anxiety goes sky high and I feel like I'm going to go crazy.
Then when I ovulate, I get better. Everything goes back to as normal as I ever get. At least I can eat and go places.
I should tell you that I do have IBS, interstial cystitis, reflux bile gastritis, delayed gastric emptying and as a result of all of this anxiety and probably some depression. I have tried so many antidepressants and can't get through the side effects. Usually end up in the hospital for rehydration. I am currently taking carafate, prevacid and xanax. Headaches I can only take tylenol. I take sudafed too when the headache gets bad, but with half an adult dose I still feel woozy and lightheaded long after it supposedly has worn off. I should tell you that I am underweight. Very thin and always have been. They have found no reason for this either other than the IBS and my nerves. I also had uterine ablation done for my heavy painful periods.
I know this sounds like a lot of complaining, but I just want to know if anyone else gets sick after their period rather than before like most people do. I'm leaning toward a hormone imbalance, because this all started after having my two children and I felt great when I was pregnant. My kids are 5 1/2 and 8 and they really need their mom back. My husband is also very frustrated. I just need some advice. I'm at the end of my rope some days.

Some people might not realize it but pms can be more than just a week long process once a month. This may sound pretty far fetched but if you are searching for ideas, why dont you try taking medications for pms, such as midol every day. I had the same problem as you and this ended up helping he. God bless and Good luck

Niecsey,
I've had my thyroid checked numerous times. Always normal. Was yours normal? What are the symptoms you suffer with and are they after your period or before because mine are after which makes no sense to doctors so I'm getting nowhere except sicker and more anxious. I miss out on just everything for about
1 1/2 to two weeks every cycle.
Emmie Ann,
Can't take anything with caffiene due to the fact that I'm already anxious. I don't really experience water weight gain type of bloating just the feeling of upper (above my belly button) fullness that makes me feel really sick sometimes.
Would like any more ideas you have. Thanks.

If you dont mind me asking, are you on any type of birth control? If not Birth control helps with more than pregnancy, it also controls your pms, mood swings, ect. If I could recomend one it would be orthotrycycline, it did wonders for me. I also have anxiety problems so I understand.

I was on orthotricyclen and ortho cyclen. Previous pills were ortho novum 777, lo estrin and tri phasil. They all gave me pretty bad headaches and nausea. I also still had the sick time every month on day 7 or 8. Wouldn't subside until the third week of pills when the progesterone content was highest. That's when the doctor suggested the depo shot and I said no way because that was too permanent of a solution that if it didn't work, I wouldn't be able to just stop it like you can a pill. That's why they did the uterine ablation and tied my tubes. Now I hardly bleed at all, but almost always have a discharge sometimes brown (mid month). The pill also caused me some pretty bad depression. Worse than now. I felt it actually lift a little when I was off the pill for about 2 or 3 months. Was doing great until this past period and for some reason got much sicker.

I was taking a BC and I didn't leave the bath room for a week, I just keep anything down. Come to find out the estrogen levels were to high for me. Maybe you could try a BC with low estrogen levels??
