It's funny that I saw this today, because today, I am going in for my second office hysteroscopy! I am nervous, but I have had one before and it wasn't bad at all. Mild cramping when they use the saline. It is totally over before you know it. Mine took about two minutes! Are you having an office hyst or a operative hyst? I haven't had the operative one yet but I believe that's my next step to remove a fibroid that I have in my uterus that is the cause of our infertility for the last two years. Not to mention many other unpleasant period problems
Good luck!

Hi Suzie,

I had the full D&C and hysteroscopy done two weeks ago. Let us know which one you are having and we can tell you all about it.

Oops, I guess we were writing at the same time and then I wandered off to eat breakfast. I think both procedures are almost identical. But, when they put you to sleep, they can take out small fibroids and polyps with the scope. They usually won't do this when you are awake.

I knew it could be done without putting me to sleep and I had never been put to sleep before, so I asked if there was any chance I could be awake. Since my doc wanted to get some good biposies and was hoping to find something to treat, she wanted me out.

The hardest part of the day was waiting for my admission time and not eating. They did let me have a little juice that morning and I got to brush my teeth. I was scared of the IV and the first one blew, but it was not terrible. I was also scared that I would be sick when i woke up, but they gave me something extra special in my IV and I woke up feeling fine.

I was groggy that afternoon and bleeding a little. The next day I was still a little groggy since the anesthesia was pretty late in the day for me. I wasn't bleeding that morning and had justa little trouble going to the bathroom. It was also a little uncomfortable to sit. They gave me good pain meds, but I didn't need to sit so I really didn't use them. I kinda walked around my uterus for a few days and then I was fine. I felt back to the way I felt before within 48 hours - actually less.

I also had the D&C at the same time, so some of the discomfort and bleeding may have been due to that.

All in all, the whole thing is a cinch. I wish you well with yours.

Hi
I had a hystoroscopy a couple of weeks ago and it really wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I also had a surgical one and the only pain I had was for a couple of days afterwards, which was only some cramping. And a small amount of bleeding. But everyone is different, so you really can't go by what everyone else experiences. But you should be just fine. Let us know how it goes. What are you having it done for, are you bleeding excessively or having pain or what. Mine was for bleeding, and in my case a hysterectomy is necessary. I'm going in on Nov. 4 and a little nervous about it, but my doctor told me I would be just fine. Good luck.

Hi everyone,

Well, my bleeding has been really weird lately. I went off the pill over a year and a half ago and my periods got weird like I would once in awhile have two periods a month. I do have some discomfort in the pelvic area but I never put it together that it could be something wrong. I'm one of those that doesn't pay alot of attention to her body when it's trying to speak, know what I mean? Anyway, I would also have some pain with intercourse but nothing major. Plus, I would spot in between periods which is not like me at all. My periods have become heavier and I feel that it looks different than before. I mean kinda like after you have a baby and the bleeding that follows is kinda mucousy (discharge) looking mixed in with the blood and I've had bigger clots. Does anyone else think that is normal?

I did have an exam and he felt a small fibroid and he also went and tried to feel it from the other way (if you catch my drift) he felt it plus he said there was a little bit of endometriosis. Sorry if I'm a little bit explicit. If I have to end up getting a hysterectomy does it mean that my hormones will go whacko? I mean will I go through the CHANGE? I'm just curious. Thanks for listening.

Suzie,

I was reading about hysterectomies the other day because I really want one. I am too young for the doctor's to consider it, but I really would like one at this point. Especially since the D&C didn't work and didn't show a thing wrong with me. Anyway, if you keep your ovaries, you are less likely to go through the change. But, sometimes taking out the uterus just snaps some women right into menopause. Not sure why. Also, if you have endometriosis, I believe they will remove the ovaries with the uterus because the main problem there is the estrogen. Symptoms of endo can remain without the uterus because of the estrogen. (I could be wrong.) If the ovaries are removed for this purpose, you will go immediately into menopause. If the ovaries are removed for another reason, you can go onto hormone replacement therapy.

That's a bit of a summary of what I read. Aren't you a little ahead of things, here. Maybe we should get you through the hysteroscopy first!
