Ok....this is a long story, I apologize. About 6 weeks ago I started itching on the External Vulvular area. I assumed it was a yeast infection,so I went to the store and got the Monistat 1 day Ovule.Bad mistake...After using I burned and itched Very BAD all night,at 3 am I could stand it no longer and went to the ER.(To go to the ER for something like this,I had to be hurting bad http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/redface.gif )

The Dr just stuck his head in the room and told me I would get better after the yeast infection went away.It was so bad that I shaved the entire area so I could make sure the medication was getting there.

During all of this I was scratching so bad I was pulling skin out in chunks and causing deep puncture wounds(it was BAD)
I waited a few more days and could stand it no longer,so I went to my family Dr as soon as he opened on Monday morning.I had started my menstrual cycle so he could not do a culture...but he put me on Flagyl orally and Lortab. I couldn't take the Flagyl but a few days because it made me so sick.By the weekend I was in the ER again, this time I had a very good Dr who did an exam and culture since I had stopped my Period, and he told me that I had Non-Specific vaginitis.I told him that the Flagyl by mouth had made me sick,so he put me on Metrogel 2x daily for 5 days.....This actually worked...until about 2 days ago when the itching started again, then the burning.I have been sitting in hot salty water to try to reduce the inflammation and draw anything out that could be there, but tonight as I was drying off I noticed what felt like an open sore,I checked and it looks like little red bumps or blisters.
I have been sexually abstinate for years until I found the right man again.I have been engaged to him for 2 yrs,and right before all this started....we were intimate for the first time. I know that he was also abstinate for the past 2 yrs because we were together all the time...even worked together,So I don't think it is an STD...he has no symptoms at all.

Any ideas or suggestions would be welcome and appreciated.

Thanks in Advance http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/confused.gif

Greetings, First of all, don't be ashamed. Second, Although I am no doctor, I'll try to provide you with suggestions for relief. Tea Tree oil is anti-viral, anti-fungal, and anti-bacterial. Its safe to use around the genitals. Just apply it with a Q-tip, or dropper. Also you can add yogurt to your diet. This will help by adding necessary bacteria into your system. Then for the pain and itching. Lavender Oil rubbed on and around the genitals with reduce pain and itching. If skin is broken such as cuts or scratches, use aloe vera instead of the Lavender Oil. Try this and see if it provides you with relief. Then I would suggest you visit your OBGYN for more info. Bless you and hope this helps.

Hi, if you are noticing blisters or bumps, you should go to your doctor or emergency room and ask to be tested for herpes. I hope it's somthing else, but if it really is herpes, you will need the medication to get relief. Good luck and keep us updated. :)

Your partner and you should still be checked for STD's! People can carry STD's for years without showing any symptoms, all the while spreading them to their partners. Please make sure both of you guys get tested.

Hi, I agree that you should be tested for Herpes. There are two types of herpes, 1 & 2. One of them is the type that causes cold sores around the mouth. This type can be passed to the genitals during oral sex. I would go to the doctor asap and get tested. Good luck!!

Hi and Thanks everyone for your replies.I need to re describe the bumps I have,I have about 3 bumps that hurt...they are not what you would say blisters I don't think.I have looked up the pics of herpes online..and I have nothing similar to that. Also I wanted to ask,Me and my Partner both give blood religiously and are even contacted by the red cross during blood shortages....If either of us had herpes, wouldn't they know it? And wouldn't they have told us?
By the way I bought some tea tree oil today and am going to use the water\oil spray treatment and see if that helps. Any other suggestions, ideas or advice is more than welcome......

Thanks Again Everyone

Just a note, there is are other conditions which can explain your symptoms (I'm a scientist by the way working in diagnostics - not a doctor!)
One is genital lichen sclerosus. The exact cause is not known, and its possibly not an STD.
Just for information. A culture should rule that out for you.
Good luck!

IcePrincess- you really should go to the doctor and just get them to do a full round of STD tests just to get it out of the way. Better safe then sorry. I don't know for sure but this sounds like something that happened to my Mom a while ago. It started as a yeast and another type of infection was also present at the time that the doctor could not detect b/c of the yeast, what ended up happening is the meds for the yeast actuall helped the other infection to grow and become worse and when the doctor tried to treat that ifection with meds the same thing happened vice versa. They ended up having to give her a very strong antibiotic and some special creams to help control the itching and sores. Hope this helps.

You need to see an OB/GYN. An ER is not the place to go. They are good for temporary relief but an OB/GYN will help you for the long haul.

1. herpes symtpoms are very different in different people, and the pics you see online are the worst case scenarios. Most people do not get symptoms as severe as those shown on pics on the web.

2. No, the blood bank would not test for herpes. Why? Because herpes is not transmitted by blood. Even people with herpes are able to donate blood.

I hope you find out what it is and get some relief soon. :)
