Is it normal to expreience weight gain once you start taking your meds? My boyfriend has gone from 115 to 170 in the past year, even though his eating habits haven't changed much. If this weight gain IS a side-effect of the meds, will he have more trouble controlling his weight than a "normal" healthy person? Thanks in advance for any replies.

Weight gain is perfectly normal when you start your steroids.

Oh boy the whole weight gain issue, when i was first diagnosed i was 100lbs at 5'3, after 4 days in the hospital i was up to 143lbs from all the injections of the solu cortef. I stayed that way for about a good month, then i lost weight i got down to 120lbs. Since Dec '99 my weight has gone up and down. I also have to say that i take 40mg of cortef, and 0.1mg of florinef, my problem is i forget to take my meds, I know not good at all. It is normal and i had gained most of weight becase i was giving myself the solu cortef shots. And that caused a dramatic weight gain, and since my doctor has taken me off that i have been able too lose weight. I am proud to say at 115lbs, 5'3 tall i am pretty happy with this weight , but i still do not feel like my meds are doing the job. Also i am a single mother of twin girls, and i havent ever been able to go to a endo, i have only seen those who have treated me in the hospital. All i can is keep your chin up the weight gain is hard, but at least you still have your life to live. Take care and God bless
