I drink large amounts of water...usually 2.5 to 3 liters a day. I often add salt to my water as well, since I crave salt like many people with adrenl problems do. Even taking in up to a tablespon of tabe salt a day in my water has my sodium dead center in the lab range and my potassium (often high with Adrenal fatigue/Addison's) is middle of the lab range as well. Due to the extra water and sodium, they stay balanced as they should.

Hi Pixie,

Often, one of the family of "sports drinks" is recommended (such as Gatorade), but personally I find them too sweet to the taste, not to mention the problems it might add to if you're already hypoglycemic like so many hypoadrenic people are. If you do want to go with a pre-mixed drink, I'd recommend Recharge; it's not quite as syrupy as Gatorade or PowerADE.

However, my far and away #1 recommendation would be for a powder packet called "Emergen-C". I live at high altitude, and Emergen-C is used here as prophylaxis for vistors so that they can avoid or recover from altitude sickness. It's also used by us locals as a hangover cure! It's an excellent electrolyte booster, and that's important for retaining water, as Meep pointed out. It contains vitamins C, B1, B2, By, B12, folic acid, Pantothenic acid, calcium, magnesium, zinc, sodium, potassium, manganese, and chromium, and believe it or not, it still tastes good. You pour a packet in a glass and then fill it with about 8 ounces of water and it does the little Alka-Seltzer fizzle. It comes in sugar-free (aspartame) form if sugar is a big issue for you, and in tasty flavors such as lemon-lime, tangerine, and rasberry. Warning though: it's a bit spendy - about $14 for a box of 36 packets, with a recommended use of 2 packets per day (one in the morning, one around lunch), although that's at my supermarket and you may be able to find it cheaper online. The manufacturer is Alacer.

Good luck!
