When my daughter was 2 her cousin accidently shut her hand in a car door at the wrist. Later her wrist was still swollen but she said it didn't hurt so I didn't take her to the doctor. The swelling went down but that summer while she was swimming in the pool I noticed her wrist was swollen again (this was months later), but again she said it didn't hurt and I just didn't put the 2 together. The next summer her wrist swelled up again while swimming and my husband was the one who thought maybe it had something to do with the door incident.
Her pediatrician said it was some kind of cyst caused by the trauma to the wrist of being shut in the door. He said it wasn't a big deal and removal of the cyst would be more painful than just leaving it in. I think it started with a "b" but not sure. If anyone has info about it or even just knows the name I'd like to read up about it on the internet. Thanks so much!!

Cysts that occur on wrists and ankles (and sometimes the joints of the fingers) are called ganglions. The cause is unknown, as many people get them for no apparent reason. But many people also get them after a trauma injury to the joint. For some people, they come and go or get bigger and smaller as fluid goes in or out, for others they stay the same. Also sometimes, they get so full/hard that they can almost feel like a piece of bone. Most of the time, nothing is done about them unless they hurt or are cosmetically ugly. If they do hurt, the first course of treatment is to drain the fluid out of the cyst. Usually this will take care of it. Rarely are they removed.
In any case, look up ganglion on the net. Good luck :)
