Hello. I'm a new member. I was diagnosed with Addison's and Graves in 1997. I'm not 40 years old and single. I have had minimal difficulies with my disease. I've only had one crisis - the initial one. I do experience "sometimes" swelling before or after my period. Back in 1997 I was told by a doctor that I could have a baby (stressed having it then), however, this doctor told me that there would be a 50% chance that my offspring would carry this disease. Has anyone ever heard of this and/or been told themselves? Many thanks.

I just saw a maternal-fetal specialist last week regarding my hypothyroidism, addison's, colitits, ITP and vasculitis, to determine whether these conditions could or would cause problems with a pregnancy, and whether the baby would develop any of these problems. In my case the doctor told me that the only problem which would most likely be hereditary was the hypothyroidism, but definitely not the addison's. I don't know whether that is helpful. Good luck!

Thank you so much. That is helpful. Very helpful. I also talked with my current doctor last week and he said he couldn't put a number on it, but that if it were he or his wife he would still go for it. http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif
