Hi
I have just been diagnosed with overactive thyroid (thyrotoxocosis)and have been given Carbimazole for meds. How will overactive thyroid and meds affect my addison’s ?

At the moment i feel Rough. mostly i am burning up big time. Should i take more cortisone? The only thing is that the cortisone makes me hold water and so does the thyroid problem. What makes me so HOT is the water retention. I have been given water tabs to help. I think i might take more of these water tabs.

any input would be appreciated. I do research and do the best i can. Its all part of the rich tapestry of life.

regards

HiGordon,

I'm sorry...I don't know the answer to your question. I would call the doctor and ask him/her when I got the first chance to do so. I have always been told to double my Prednisone in times of crisis or acute illness. I would definately ask your doctor about this. Your case might be different than mine.

I was diagnosed with Addison's 40 years ago and with Hypoparathyroidism 42.

Sorry I couldn't help...just wanted to say Hello.

Lil

I don't know anything about Addison's either, just had a sudden low b.p., probably due to dehydration, and started a web search.

They say it goes with underactive, hypothyroidism, and funguses, like nail fungus I guess, and diabetes.

I guess your doctor's told you not to ever go off Prednizone abruptly. My father did when he was 67, had been taking it for years for emphysema, had a heart attack on a trip and the strange doctor should have known, as most patients get told, not to quit it suddenly.

I'm really afraid of cortizones.

Just found out diabetes is greatly helped by eating 3 or 4 raw green beans and 2 or 3 stalks of raw asparagus a day. It's working wonders for me in less than a week. Sure hope the girl in the doctor's ofc who told me that doesn't get fired or something if he finds out. Since you have Addison's, I'm guessing you may have diabetes also.

Side effects of the different meds can be keyword searched on the web. I've been having arm muscle pain and figured it could have been from too much glucophage. Waiting to see what develops now.
