Hello folks, I'm excited I found this board since I've been having an unusal problem for at least the last year and it happened again this afternoon so I decided to do something about it.
While I was in the bathroom, I could feel a similar twitch in my left bicep and because I was wearing a t-shirt, I rolled it up quickly and watched my bicep contract and release for the next 10 seconds or so. I walked into the computer room to search for a site like this and as I sat here it began to do it for another 3 seconds or so. I doesn't hurt, it actually feels like I have one of those electric shock muscle tone machines you see on informericals. I've used one before and the sensation is very similar. This twitching occurs in my neck muscles as well.
As far as putting a number on how often this happens, perhaps once a week in a fashion similar to what I described above. Please could anybody shed some light on what could be causing this. I'm afraid of what I might hear, but I'd rather not be in the dark. I'm an 18 year-old male and am in good shape.
Thanks to anybody that can help!

Hello!
First of all I just want to say "Welcome to the Boards"!! :D There are loads of great people here that love to help.
I'm not really sure what could be causing your muscle spasms. Have you thought about seeing a doctor? All I can think of is that maybe you have a pinched nerve somewhere.
Take care and keep in touch.

I've had sorta like the same thing happen to me. My first symptom was two partial seizures, one involved my rt arm, the next involved my rt leg. Then the spasims started. Slowly at first, but enough for me to know "something just isn't right".
Have they increased in occurance or intensity? Any muscle cramping happening? Do they occur more often while resting or relaxing than when your active?
The answer for me is yes to all those questions.
Go see a doctor. Tell them any and all symptoms that you have. Write your symptoms down might help.
They have done test after test and I have yet to find out what "it" is. Best of luck to you and I hope that it turns out to be nothing.

That's interesting. I do seem to cramp easily doing things that are not really physically strenous at all. My friends think it's hilarious when I'm wrenching on my car and I pull a muscle in my leg or something and I play along, but it is annoying to say the least.
Honestly, yesterday's experience with my arm was the longest "twitch" I've ever had.

Other possibilities:
Lactic acid build-up, usually occurs after intense activity.
Calcium/magnesium depeletion, most often caused by caffeine, phosphates in soft drinks, medications [steroids like prednisone] and smoking.
Pinched nerve - if your arm is kept in one position for a long time then abruptly moved, this sudden change in position may just hit a nerve ending.

Hi PhillyH, I don't have any real advice for you, but if it makes you feel any beter, I have the same twitch. It's an odd feeling like you said, but I figured, if it doesn't hurt, or bother me, then why bother it. Now it's been a couple of month since my last twitch, but I have had it forever. I hope it helps knowing someone else has this prob, sorry I have no salution. :D

Twitching as you describe is usally related to a vitamin B deficiency.
Try taking vitamin B 50 or 100 complex daily and see if that helps in a few weeks.

I appreciate that advice and will see how I do with that, but just out of curiosity what contains Vitamin B so I know what I'm not getting enough of? Thanks everybody!

Hi Philly--what you've described is called muscle fasciculation. It means twitching or fine muscle movement of a small area of muscles.
Most commonly it is a benign condition. For some people this occurs several times a day, for others sometimes never. Nearly everyone experiences it at some time or other. It usually happens in your eyelids, upper arms, calves and thumbs but can happen anywhere.
It can sometimes happen in times of stress or anxiety. It's considered a normal occurance.
Severe, prolonged or painful twitching or twitching that would impair you from functioning on a daily basis should be discussed with a doctor.

Very interesting to say the least since I suffer from this usually after a bad grand-mal seizure I had one a month ago pulled my arm outta joint and my right eye twitches constantly I am sure it will go away soon :D infact I tend to sit here and trip out on it and laugh I know it only happens after a seizure with me but I also drink coffee on top of it.
