I'm 24 years old and for the last year (at least) my hands and feet are always cold...they almost never seem to be at a 'normal' temperature. My fingers have also been tingling and have had pins and needles and numbness. I saw a doctor (a hand/foot specialist) in April who took xrays and said that I had no signs of arthritis or anything else that he could see and he diagnosed me as having carpal tunnel syn. While that may have explained the hands it never explained my feet. And after using the braces he gave me I found little relief. Since then I have experienced joint pain (mostly knees, elbows, hip, and knuckles/fingers), hands and feet are still cold, and I have just general weakness off and on in my hands/arms and feet/legs. As a side note (don't know if these could all be connected or not) since the beginning of the summer I have started to have heartburn and mild reflux (never had either before in my life), also have noticed that my hair seems to be growing much much faster than it ever did before (legs, arms, etc..), and my skin suddenly has decided to go through the teenage phase (very mild) I never went through. Any ideas as to what could be going on and as to the type of doctor i should find for all this?

Hello, Im 25 and I read your pos and I can relate to the cold hands and feet, numbness and tingling, and heartburn. I was diagnosed with an Anxiety disorder which was causing the cold hands and feet and the numbness and tingling in extremites. Are you under and stress? The heartburn turned out to be GERD which Ive heard is also caused by anxiety and stress. I hope I could help a little.

It could be many things. Go to a regular/GP/family doctor. He'll know where to send you after many symptom questions if he cant help you.

Look in the Thyroid Board for the Information Archive topic and see how many of the symptoms you find listed that relate to you.
Print out the list, check it off, and give it to your doctor.
Read our stories...your symptoms sound just like ine were before finaly being given thyroid med, and most of my symptoms are now gone.
Let us know how you are doing, on the thyroid board. TF

Take note of the things you are eating as well. Are you eating foods that contain NutraSweet?

Your symptoms sound very similar to mine. I was diagnosed with lupus at age 14. I then started having the cold hands and feet and they would also turn blue! My rheumatologist said this was Raynaud's Syndrome that some people with lupus have. As for your stomach (and I think this is related to the lupus also-I just have to find some info on this)I have suffered from ulcers since age 18. Last year, my ulcers were so bad I had an obstruction causing anything I ate or drank to come back up. I had an antrectomy and vagotomy. Just 3 weeks ago, I had another scope (at my family docs request) and lo and behold I am full of ulcers again! I have been checked for H-Pylori, Zollinger Ellsion, you name it. I have an appointment Tuesday at a "research" clinic. Good luck.

I, too,have very cold hands, feet, and sometimes my nose. Are you on any high blood pressure medicine? I have been told it is a side affect of those types of meds. However, I have reason to suspect I have Fibromyalgia. It has been noted to be one of the symptoms for Fibro. I think there are several diseases causing "cold extremities". I am trying to keep my feet dressed warm. But the hands are hard to keep warm. Everytime I drive anywhere I spend about 15 min. trying to warm my hands on my neck or under my arms. Having gloves on doesn't seem to help, I have to remove them and get them warm, then I can put gloves back on. I know how uncomfortable it is for you. I hope you can find the proper diagnosos. Sorry this is probably too long of a story, but it might give you a clue one way or another.

I just had a atypical stroke (as what it says in my file) and I am just recovering right now as we speak.
First interpretation on my MRI scan in my brain is, I have an inflamation in my brain then I stayed at the hospital for a good week 1/2 for further observation.
I had a lot of tests done and all of them were negative, the only tests that came back abnormal is my MRI scan(twice same result, w/ contrast @ w/o) and one of my blood tests for ANTIPHOSPHOLIPIDS ANTIBODIES or one other name is "hughes syndrome", it is really hard to diagnose, it mimics MS symptoms.
I would suggests that you check with your primary care physician and ask your doctor if its possible to see a neurologists and conduct further tests.

Check out a book that I found at a reflexologist's office called "Hiatal Hernia Syndrome" by a Dr. Theodore Baroody. I think it might have saved my life. If it is a hiatal hernia it can be pressing on a nerve called the vagus nerve that can affect EVERYTHING in the body. I had never heard of that nerve before, but a nurse friend of mine and an EMT friend have. I had alot of the same symptoms, plus more and this book showed me how to manipulate the hernia myself kind of like a chiropractor and it fixed it and all the symptoms went away. My blood pressure even went back to normal immediately!! Donna

have you had your blood sugar checked? diabetes will cause those symptoms sometimes.

Yes, your symptoms are worth more looking into. Lupus
is one possibility. Have your Dr. run some blood tests
to see if he can find anything. You may have to see
a rhumetologist to get checked out for Lupus or related
diseases. General Doctors don't always know what to
look for.

What would the condition be named if in my case my middle finger usually from 1st (closest to fingernail) knuckle to tip of finger becomes very cold, numb & white? Tx. M

Reynaud's Disease causes a closing of the peripheral blood vessels. Do your hands look white? Low Thyroid could be a cause too, so leave a thermometer by the bed tonight and take your temp first thing in the morning. If it is too low, Thyroid is probably the culprit.
