All,

Please help me out. Ever since I have started taking Paxil - over 10 months ago......I have been experiencing memory loss. It seems that my new husband and I are fighting all the time about simple things I forget to do..and the only thing I can attribute it to is Paxil. I was never this bad in the memory department before, and I'm just wondering if anyone else has experienced memory loss for simple things.......

Please write and share your story......if I can show him that it is a result of the paxil.....I think it will save me a lot of aggravation.....

Thank you all so very much.

Sorry dear...wish I could help. I was on Paxil for over a year with no such problems. Have you talked to your doctor yet? There are many medical reasons for sudden memory problems. Medications can be one too. Only your doctor can tell you for sure whats causing this.
Your husband needs to be a little more understanding . Whatever happened to "in sickness and in health"?

Paxil Side Effects and Lawsuits. Paxil was introduced in the US in 1992 and has been approved by the FDA for the treatment of depression, obsessive compulsive disorder, panic disorder and social anxiety disorder. Since Paxil has been on the market its sales have soared and many people taking the drug have experienced adverse side effects, that they say were not disclosed in advance. Lawyers are pursuing legal claims against the manufacturer of Paxil because Glaxo SmithKline, the drug maker, allegedly failed to warn of the drug's addictive and dangerous side effects.
Withdrawal Dangers

Paxil patients who attempt to to reduce or quit dosage weeks, months or years after use, say they find themselves experiencing severe withdrawal. Since many of the patients were ignorant of the withdrawal hazard they often attribute the symptoms seemingly mysterious illnesses. Many refer to "Electric zaps" and other adverse physical and psychological symptoms.

Other Side Effects reported:

Electric zaps, jolting, dizziness, light-headedness, vertigo, in-coordination, gait disturbances, sweating, extreme nausea, vomiting, high fever, abdominal discomfort, flu symptoms, anorexia, diarrhea, agitation, tremulousness, irritability, aggression, sleep disturbances, nightmares, tremor, confusion, memory and concentration difficulties, lethargy, malaise, weakness, fatigue, paraesthesias, ataxia, and/or myalgia.

Hope this helps.

Thank you both for replying.

I have been doing some investigating and one of the side effects that Paxil carries IS short term memory loss. It doesn't effect everybody but the possibility is there. I'm still wanting to talk to peoplel who have experiencing this......thank you for taking the time out to show you care and reply.

This health board really has the kindest members. God Bless all.

Hi Stefanie, my wife and I also take Paxil. I'll tell you that we really have no side effects from it, in fact it has gotten our relationship back on track. I have though noticed some memory loss issues of my own, and have noticed some in my wife, but niether of us really pay it any mind just because of what it does do for us. Also the memory loss is very slight, but noticeable. Like I said it has gotten us back to the way we used to be, so it is worth it to us.

Cadis,

Thanks so much for replying. I agree with you on that!
Paxil has helped me be my old self again....and I haven't really experienced any side effects either. The only one was the memory loss.....and when I read up on the drug side effects.......I don't see memory loss listed. Thats why I wanted to find out through people who were taking it if it was just me or if It really is. I'm glad that Paxil is helping both you and your wife. I know it has helped me.......

Thanks for taking the time out of your life to write.

Regards and god bless.
Stefanie

Hi...I am on Paxil but donot take it regularly. However, I have never had any type of memory loss or any other side effects from it. Just makes my kind of tired sometimes but not real bad. I don't thi k I ever read anything about paxil causing memory loss. Good luck!

I take Zoloft, not Paxil, but I know that my memory is terrible now and it wasn't 7 years ago.
