24 days ago i sprained my ankle. for the first two weeks i didn't keep my foot up much after hte first few days (they said only to do it through the weekend, which was 4 days total including thursday and friday). i also wasn't taking 1800 mg/day of ibuprofen as i should have been. when i went to the doctor on the 20th they gave me the ibuprofen and told me to keep my foot up. i did so and after two days the swelling had gone down a lot in the foot (though when i would stand up it would still get red and slowly swell). however, i have seen no progress since then. the swelling is still bad around the ankle and it is far too painful to walk (as well as unfeasible since the swelling is just too much to even be capable of walking). the foot still gets red and swells when i put it down. so it's been 24 days and i can't walk. this is really starting to piss me off, does anyone have any ideas on what i can do? should i be soaking my foot in water (hot or cold?) thanks for any advice

How about trying one of those braces that they sell in the drug store? It's like a piece of cloth that slips onto your foot. I sprained my ankle on Feb. 25, and my ankle is STILL swollen! Not badly, but there's still a little lump there. Sprains take a LONG time to heal! I still can't bend my foot all the way down as far as the other foot, and it took about 2+ months to be able to walk down stairs without pain (it depends HOW you sprained it, which action would hurt it) I was told to ice it when it would start to hurt.

Did they tell you that you tore a ligament? I never sought help for my sprain at first, and it got worse somewhat like yours. Long story short, I had torn the ligament and should have worn a cast. To this day (10 years later), I have a lemon sized bump there, no pain, but I wish I had gotten better care sooner (it WAS my fault).
