I tore a ligament in my knee and had to use cruches for weeks. while using the cruches my wrist started to hurt. Now I have a lump on the back side of my hand. I have looked around and found that the lump is over the Lunate bone or the scaphoid bone. No swelling or redness, just pain where the lump is, and hurts to use the cruches. Hurts my wrist when i bend my hand back. Is these bad??? do I need to see the Dr.????

Sounds like you strained the heck out of your hand. How big is this bump, just a swollen looking one or a definate lump like the size of a quarter or something? drs

Nothing on my wrist is swollen, just the lump on the back side of my hand. It is the size of a dime. It feels like a bone has come out place. If it is a bone I thought it really swell up and bruse. If it is not a bone out of place, what the heck is this???

Yes, I have insurence. I just don't want to look stupid or like I'm a hypocondreact(can't spell that word). Do you know of anywhere that I can talk to a doc and see if I need to really go to a doc. Or just let this go..

First thing I would do is call the ER, they can usually give you a pretty good idea on what to do. They won't know who you are, so don't worry about seeming anything but concerned for the problem and needing an answer. OK. If that doesn't do much then try calling the doc that repaired your ligament in your knee. Maybe this isn't the first time he's seen this. You could try soaking in some epsom salts for the discomfort and swelling. Hope this has help some. drs

My guess would be a ganglion. They're small sacs of fliud that build up and are usually painless and common. The usually ocuur around the wrists, ankles or sometimes the joints of the finger. Look it up on the net. There are plenty of places to read about then. Good luck.

Yup! It sure sounds like a ganglion cyst. I had one for years in my wrist and it finally went away on it's own. When I first went to the doc with it, he told me that if it was really bothering me too bad, he would smash it with a heavy book. I thought he was kidding but read years later that was really the treatment some docs used. Ouch! But you really should have a doc check it out to make sure especially since it is bothering you and causing pain. Good luck to you and I hope your knee is doing better too!

My question would be. since this appear so quickly after the use of the crutches, it might be something other than a ganglion. I didn't mention the cyst because of the way it appeared, and you said you had alot of pain there. I wonder if you could discribe where this spot on the back of your hand is. Not the kind of bone. Although the doctor will know the area from the bone discription. Are you going to call your doc. or ER? drs

Thank You for all your replies. I have made an appointment with the doc. and Wednesday. I did not even think of a gangion cyst. Thanks, again.

my husband had the same thing happen to him and it was a joint out of place... go to a chiropractor and he will take xrays and pop it back in place for you....my hubby said it didnt hurt either when his chiropractor did it....and most chiropractors the first visit is free

jen, I want to live where you live. First visit is Free? LOL not in my town. I'm glad to hear about any good experiences for a chiroprator. They had saved me so much suffering. I highly recommend you go to a chiropractor BussFuss, and here's my reasoning why.......there is the pressure to make that clinic some operating money, they, in the long run treat you with medication.
They somehow make something from the sale of that medication, it may be down the road somewhere but they get their kickbacks from it, I have no doubt.

But at a chiro.'s they could do an exray, and put it back in, or treat it some other ways, or refer you to a special kind of doc.

Before you go to this doc.apt. you scheduled, call around and see if any one you know, can recommend a chiro. or if they know someone that goes to one. Most are pretty good. Some are great. I've got a great one. The rule for me is if you are getting good results, and the muscle is treated along with the injury,so it doesn't pop back out so soon. I want to not have to go back. But unfortunately I did need to go to my chiro. lately and he was on vac. all week, I went to my old one, and he just gives a quick fix, doesn't treat the muscle with any thing other than ultra sound. The one that I like, does pressure point message, it may hurt during the treatments but I get well and stay that way. :)

Chiro's generally treat the whole body more naturally, with input of diet and supplements, stretching techniques etc...'drs' at the hosp. or clinic need to make that buck on medication and yes, sometimes surgeries. :(

That what doc.'s do.

Treat the symtom.

If they found a cure without any medication???

Who wouldn't be making the money then.....

I seriously think they have cures for lots of things but there's no bucks in a cure. As you could probably tell, I've been stiffed for lots of cash with no results. It's not a bad idea to find a great chiroprator, nothing more relaxing than a good alignment job. :) :)

Just had to jump in here and agree with you drs. It is a wonderful feeling to come back from the chiro with everything back in line again! Shoot even my mind feels better after a good treatment. :round:
