I know from having taken prednisone myself for too long, that while on it, I gained and redistributed fat to my stomach area. Even after I went off--it was still there--just less.
So for me, hormones in general, whether HRT or Prozac or Prednisone, put weight on me. And so do the steroid inhalers.

I am also struggling with my weight! I went from eating all the salty foods I wanted in excess because of the craving and now I have just gained too much weight! What can we do! I am exercising and eating right and it doesn't seem to help!! AHH!

Regarding weight problems, same thing happened to me. After firing three doctors, I now see a doctor at Hopkins who informed me that I was on entirely too much hydrocortisone. The standard for treating Addison's is 20/10 mgs. 20 miligrams in the morning and ten at night. Turns out for me, the standard was too much and therefore I gained 50 lbs in four months.
The third doctor cut my dosage in half and I've lost
15 lbs in four months. I'm not losing it as quickly as I gained it. I have more energy on the higher dose, but couldn't stand myself being so heavy. Now that I'm on the lower dosage, I don't have as much energy and get up and go. Try it. If your doctor won't reduce your dosage, then I would suggest finding another doctor.

Here's a suggestion that just might help a little about the get-up-and-go problem. A family doctor we had for 36 yrs until he passed away recommended a certain brand of vitamins w/zinc, which it's against the rules for me to mention by brand. Zinc is a man's vitamin, but it sure gives me more energy. I was on

Please, whatever it takes, do not give up on this quest for weight maintenance. I have gained so much I'm embarrassed to say. However I don't want to blame it all on the hydrocortisone. I do believe that there is a safe solution. If anyone hears anything let me know.

Is weight gain with hydrocortisone a rule of thumb? Would it mean that one might be taking too much?
