I am trying to make a very difficult decision and I am hoping that someone can share a similar experience. I am considering having a hysterectomy because I have the BRCA1 mutation and have already had a borderline malignancy removed from my ovary. I am concerned / curious about how surgical menopause would affect someone of my age (28). I cannot seem to find any information on surgical menopause in someone under the age of 33. Please help!

I had to have a surgical hyster. at age 29. The day after surgery the doctor started me on hormones. I've
now been on them for 21 years and will have to be on them all my life. I take pills yet there are patches
and other forms of hormone pills. As far as side effects go, I really can't tell that there are any.
I say have the surgery and don't worry. Your doctor will know what to give you to stop "hot flashes" and
the like. Good luck to you.

I had a total hyst at age 43-alot older than you. But, I have had some problems withs weight gain. 5-10 pounds, which REALLY frustrates me, because I exercise 4-5 times a week and eat well. But, I am in the process of doing alot of research on HRT and natural supplements, and plan to wean off of hormones and on to natural things like black cohosh, flaxseed, soy, and other things. There is alot of good info on the net-type surgical menopause in your search engine.
