Husband had to drink barrium liquid mixed with water 2 hours before a ct scan. Is this what you are referring to?

Lord, when I had upper and lower GI's done I had to drink Barrium, then I had to drink two 8 oz cups of it for another study... I simply refused to do it. I always say I will undergo any sugury or procedure but they'll have to kill me before I drink Barrium again. Anyway my tests were done lying down or somewhat sitting. Don't worry, I don't think you will have to like stand or anything. Hope everything turns out well for you :)

It's not so bad.I will be having an upper GI done the 13th.The same day also a sonogram to check out the gall bladder.I'm just happy I don't have to drink that awful stuff to clean my bowels out. That's another storey.LOL

Oh yes I remember well. I had a barium swallow a couple of years ago. You do have to swallow sitting up and lying down on your side. While standing up they give you a liquid telling you to drink fast..it sort of feels like those "fizzies" in your mouth...so DO swallow fast because they seem to expand. Not a bad taste though so don't worry. While you're on your side you can watch its path on the screen. Pretty neat. Good luck.

Not an unpleasant procedure. I was give several sticky bites ie peanut butter, chocolate morsels, sticky buns all simultaneously with a swallow of a flavored barium mixture. There we exrays taken from a frontal & side view and in motion "as taped" from which stills are taken. Weird & interesting to watch. Only discomfort I had was the food getting trapped by the soft palate. A diet change and eating procedure modification took care of this 53 year old's swallowing problem due to a receding palate.
