When I went to the hospital last night, the nurse who admitted me asked me (right after someone took my blood pressure) if my blood pressure was always that low. I don't remember what it was, but what does low blood pressure mean? (I was at the hospital b/c I had high fever, chills, and some flank pain)

Your blood pressure can sometimes become lowered in response to infection, so don't worry too much about this. Once you have recovered it should return to normal.

Many people run low pressure routinely. The reason they asked if this was normal for you was so they could use this as a tool as to whether youf low blood pressure might have been a symptom of something. You didn't state what your blood pressure normally but if your blood pressure normally runs in the range of what it was last night then you are fine. If it was below what you normally run then that would give them a possible clue as to what might have been going on. If you don't know what your normal pressure runs then get it checked at a free BP clinic like the ones you see at department stores sometime and keep these numbers in mind for future reference.
