I went to the emergency room two days ago due to high fever, chills, and some flank pain. The doctor did a pelvic exam on me to make sure they didn't miss anything. I was bleeding after it, and it hurt. The nurse told me that the doctor accidentally cut through a membrane, and that it would be okay. However, when I am having a B.M., I see some blood. During the day, there is brownish discharge. Is this okay? (It is NOT my period, I know that for a fact)

A small amount of bleeding after a pelvic exam is OK, and so is some cramping (period type cramps) but if it persists for more than a day I would see a gynecologist just make sure everything is alright. You may also want to post this same question on the Women's Health Board.

I think you should go to a doctor to make sure all is okay. Since you still bleed two days afterwards.

I don't understand what would actually "cut" through a membrane. What did the cutting, and what "membrane" did the nurse say got cut?

But generally speaking, it's very possible to be uncomfortable before, during, and after, and it's also possible to bleed. Remember it will also take time for you to stop seeing the brownish discharge because it takes a while to heal, takes a while to stop bleeding and for the blood to stop coming out, and a lot of what will DO the moving is your regular vaginal discharge and lubrication CARRYING the blood out, and all of this will take time.

You didn't get a pap smear, right? You got a pelvic exam? That's just manual palpation, so I quite honestly cannot imagine what would "cut" you, how a membrane could damaged, and why you'd be cramped up from this procedure.

Any bleeding you may get, (ie: when moving your bowels), would probably be from the intra-abdominal pressure you create while straining, and the pressure on your pelvic floor. Straining of the pelvic floor could potentially cause bleeding vaginally or rectally IF you have a pre-existing condition to warrant such.
