I am just wondering what anyone has done when having breast cysts.I had 2 aspirated over a year ago and now have 2 more. My doctor says we can aspirate again, have them surgically removed or just leave them as they are not really a big deal. I am interested in hearing what others have chosen to do.

Hi Maryanne I had 2 breast cysts one was removed in the docs office it was the size of a grape and was tested the result was begnin fiberous breast tissue. I have another one as well same breast the Doc said its the same as the one that was removed so I am leaving it alone. The one I had removed took 3 stiches and I now have a "dent" in my breast and at times it aches something awful. The doc told me I will probably always have trouble with the odd achy days but it was worth it to know I was ok. My 21 yr old daughter has developed a cyst in her breast as well it is bigger than mine was and it hurts. The doc wants to do a needle biopsy and shes not too thrilled about it. I would leave your new ones alone if your Doc thinks they are nothing. What do you think?

I have cystic breasts as well, always have. I'm just used to them now, lumpy bumpies and all. They get worse if I consume too much caffeine, and if I'm around my period, and they're more annoying than anything. But for me, removing them is more "risky" or a pain, than just leaving them there and adapting.

I have them too. I have done nothing about them except, I have cut out pop that has caffeine in it. Do they really bother you?

I guess they don't really bother me except for being sore at times. What probably bothers me the most is just knowing that they are there. I am going to wait awhile before doing anything with them. Maybe I can just get used to it. If you leave them, do you get an ultrasound every time you get a mammogram?

sometimes the mamogram will show something that will require you to come back and do a more detailed mamogram. (That call can be scarey)Then they will look at it and they will be able to tell what it is and just notate which side it's on and where it's at so that the next time you go throught this, you'll know what to expect. Mine hurt to at times, but, that's because I have had caffeine. Put heat on and that will relieve the pain or take a hot bath. That should help!

I also have fibro cystic breast condition (I am 48). My first one (size of a large walnut) was removed when I was 30. I've had others removed with a local, under my arm and in the breasts. At one time the doctors said it was dangerous to leave them in. Well I now have many all sizes and am advised to leave them and I am comfortable with that. Since 30 I get yearly checkups either mamograms or ultra sounds. I increase a bra size at period time. When I was younger I had a problem leaving them in but not anymore. I know a woman older than I and they removed half of her breast just to get out the cysts. Sad. Tx Karon

What about having them in there bothers you? The way they feel? That they might not actually be benign? Are you afraid they'll grow into something? Are you afraid of the pain?
Why would you want to consider getting them removed?
(When I first found out I had them and went through all the panic of not knowing what they were and thought they had to come out, I also remember thinking that if they ever had to take them out I'd be left so scarred and dimpled and disfigured).
They can also cloud mammograms a lot so it's very good to have your baseline in hand. I was never told to get them every single year, and I'm not sure my insurance would cover it.

I also had breast cysts about 3 years ago. My Dr. told me to aviod caffiene in my diet, and eventually they just went away. He also told me that they were liquid filled and he could inject a needle and drain them, but I decided to go with the no caffiene diet, and hey it worked.

Thanks for all of the replies. During the last two weeks that I was considering if I wanted to leave them or drain them, they pretty much disappeared! I can still feel a little bit of a sore spot so I don't know if there is still something there or not. One more question, when you find what you think is a cyst, do you have it checked out by your doctor each time? My doctor did the last time, just bring a portable ultrasound machine in the exam room and look at them that way so he could tell me right away that they were cysts. He did also have me get a mammogram and then they also did an ultrasound. I appreciate all of your replies!
