I have had 2 laproscopic surgeries leaving 9 surgical scars on my abdomen. Is there anything I can use to make them fade?

Put vitamin E oil on them. It really helps scars heal. Time will take away the redness, and then they usually become hardly noticeable.

Hydroquinone is a bleaching cream sometimes used to help reduce pigment of scars. If the scars are slightly raised, they sell over the counter "tape" products you apply and leave on which help to flatten the scar. Retin-A can also help with scars by increasing the rate of cell turnover. Laser scar revision can be done. If the scars are bad they can be excised and re-done in a cosmetic fashion.
There is vitamin-E oil (get fresh capsules and pop a new capsule every time you apply - do NOT buy a "bottle" of vitamin E oil because it's usually sesame oil mixed with it, plus it goes rancid easily). Aloe vera helps with redness too.
Vitamin C helps with all connective tissues, taken internally (try Ester-C because it's more potent you need fewer and it's non-acidic).

I had a lymph node biopsy, so I have a scar on my neck. After the wound had pretty much healed, I began using a silicon scar patch on it. They're sold over the counter (the brand name of mine was Rejuveness), but they're sort of expensive. It's worth it, though!
I tape the clear patch over the scar with medical tape and sleep with it on. My scar has reduced in size, the red color has faded, and the raised tissue has smoothed out. I know that these results aren't just a byproduct of time because I waited over a year before I began using the patch (I didn't know about it before then!), and my scar was pretty gross. Now, it's nice and smooth and not noticeable. I wish I'd have begun using the patch as soon as the wound healed. (You wouldn't want to use it on an open or very tender wound-- the packaging explains when you can start using it.)
You'll probably have to experiment to find a medical tape that doesn't irritate your skin, and, if your scars are very big, you may have to buy two or more patches. Don't use the patch on damp skin and don't apply any creams or salves with it. In short, read all the directions (as I'm sure you'd do anyway).
Let me know how it works out!! Good luck!! :)

Definitely try vitamin E. It comes in a pill and you just poke a hole in the pill with a pin and use the liquid inside. Put in on your scar a couple times a day and especially after you shower.
I had neck surgery and had a huge scar. My neurologist recommended the vitamin E and my scar has faded so much you can't even hardly notice the scar anymore.

I have read conflicting reports on vitamin E. I also thought it was good with scars until I read that it doesn't help like people thought it would. What about Mederma? That is suppose to help with scars. I want to try that myself.

WOW!! Thanks, these are some great ideas. I tried not to let it bother me. But, with summer weather only 5-6 months away, I wanted to try something. I would prefer wearing a two piece, rather than a one piece when I'm by the pool. ;) :D The problem is, the scars are a red/purple color and are in several areas across the abdomen. Thanks again.

something called Mederma is also supposed to work well on scars.

Hi Kitty. I'm glad you asked this question. I've had 2 laproscopic surgeries in this past year. I am going to give the vitamin E a try. I bet you look nice in a 2 piece. ;)

Hi. Just had to let you know the Vitamin E is starting to work. The 3 that are the least red are almost completely faded. Thanks for the advice. :)

Would the vitamen E and other products mentioned here help with old scars? I've also had 2 laproscopy's and 3 c-sections, and when I was 5, had my appendix out. For my appendix back then, the incisions were miles long!! I've never been able to wear a 2 piece.
Any suggestions?? Or is it hopeless for me? I'm only 44!!!

I have only tried vitamin E so far I have a scar from my hysterectomy in May 2002 from my navel to my pubic line and I wish I could get it to fade in time. I know its only been 9 months but the scar was used for 2 previous surgeries in 82 and 88 so there is some scar tissue there So is there anything else that gets in deep to heal it?
Autumn.

Hi everyone. Am I just not being patiant enough? I have a couple of them fading, but the others seem to be just as dark. I guess I should try one of the other ideas like Mederma, Rejuveness, or Hydroquinon.
Are these items I can get over the counter????
BTW Sparky, thank you for the comp. :) I would feel better if the scars didn't seem to stand out SO much :( .

Hi Kitty, Not a prob. I'm going to try one of the other remedies, even though the vitamin E does seem to be helping. I'm going on a cruise in a few months, and I'm getting impatient. Oh well. Later
