Getting top heavy, I never gave much thought to falling until I fell this winter on a light icy snow. Grounded, I lost both my feet from under me and hit the deck with a a full body slam. I never knew it was in the making. I hit hard and flat on my back and not on an arm or hip. My legs jerked with the impact. I lay there for a long minute before I gathered myself together taking inventory to see if I had broken anything. My right wrist twisted and my left leg hurt from the snap it took at the knee joint. Afterwards I took a hot bath and I rubbed down my back and wrist with myoflex. The next morning I had two equally distanced red-spotted bruises across my shoulder blades and my wrist and left knee hurt noticably. I know many who have fallen and broken a hip or leg or arm, but I never understood the full impact of such a fall: it happens lightning fast! And when it happens, snapping an wrist, arm, leg, or hip does not take much force if you hit just right. It takes a few days to get over the impact and the soreness. As we get older, it pays to pay attention to the possibility of falling! Prevention is the best measure.

Since you took quite a fall you will want to use some Ibuprofen routinely but probably in prescription strength dosages of either 600 or 800 milligrams 3-4 times per day. A heating pad or the rubs like bengay or icey hot may also help. If you notice anything unusual about your pain don't hesitate to see the doc to be there is nothing seriously wrong.
