Hello. This is my virgin post, so if I'm breaking protocol by posting a topic that has already been done to death, my apologies in advance. My question is for those of you who suffer from cold sores. Specifically, those of you who take Lysine as a preventative measure to reduce your number of outbreaks. I've been using Lysine for a few years now to try to curtail the number of outbreaks I get, and it's been amazingly helpful. However, when one manages to sneak through (as is happening now), I generally take a highly elevated amount per day. I'm talking like 12 500 mg pills during a 24 hour period. What I'm wondering is if any of you know if this "shock and awe" Lysine abundance can have any ill effects? It seems to work in suppressing the intensity of the outbreak, but I don't want to be damaging some other system by doing it.
Finally, this might sound silly, and I'm almost not sure if I should say it at all, but the anonymity of the internet does wonders for courage. Do any of you find that you can mentally block cold sores from forming? Sometimes if I feel that telltale tingle, I can force myself not to think about it at all, and I'll find that the sore never materializes. Is this just me?

Hi Amanda....Lysine saved my life!!! I'll take two bottles worth of it per year, then give my body a break. That's how my doctor recommended i take it. He said taking anything constantly/daily all year lessens the effect of it for when we need it most. I rarely get them now, but when i do, no amount of pretending that it's not happening works. The last time i got one i woke up in the morning with it already well and truly there and i too up my dosage of Lysine at that time.
I realise it's just a cold sore and a lot of people get them, but when i get one i feel very self conscious as people always refer to them as "herpes" and give you the "what were you doing" jokes. Wish there was a way of stopping them for good. Then again, maybe it's a reminder that we need to look closer at our health at that point in time.

From experience i will tell you somethign else got cured...yes cured.. plantar's wart. It really hurt to walk on my foot and everyone said you will have to go to a podiatrist and have it cut off. Instead i went to the health store and was told to take Lysine 500mg. a day for however long to get rid of it and it is gone now over a year and never to return. betty
