Well I had my tonsils removed on May 29TH. I have my first follow up appt at 1:40 today(6/5). I have been dredding this day becasue I know that I have not be able to consume the water needed. My tounge is white and pasty. I don't want this doctor in my mouth becasue I can barley open it without pain. After reading these posting I feel a little comfortable telling him that it still hurts.
DRAMAQUEEN gave me some good advice about removing the white stuff from my throat. But to be honest, there is less pain when that stuff is sitting back there.(lol)
I try not to cough but I have ashtma. The Docs told me to continue to take the inhalers but HELLO I can barely open my mouth to brush my teeth.
I was told that it would be like a case of tonsilitis. Now I have had some mean cases of tonsilitiis and it never felt like this. I have seen on this message board where people say that they are in there 3rd week still trying to recover.WOW!!

I am so tired of writing notes to my family. How long Does it take before you can talk?
My famiy has been a great support, but I know they are tired of me trying to sound out words with moans. :)

But if you have to get this procedure done I will say that a great support system will make a significant difference. (Mother, Father, Siblings, signif. others, co-workers, bosses, and friends)
You will need them so much. I am blessed with a great support system.

Are you on something like vioxx? I found when I started taking that my uvula went down which made it easier to talk. Talking got easy at about day 10. You can be re-admitted into hospital and get a drip so you don't have to drink or eat.

I couldn't brush my teeth until about day 3-4, and even after that it was hard.

Hang in there, keep us posted.
