Hi, so like this is what happened. I went to work today, i work in like a clothing store at the mall so im opening the store and all of a sudden i have this horrible pain in my wrist and hand (i am so grossed out and sensitive about wrists too cuz the veins are there and theres like no skin). so anyways i look at my wrist, like the underside of it, and i have really small veins normally but except on one hand this one huge vein was popping out (i am gonna barf just typing this) like it was huge and purple and painful like excrutiating. Like it was like at least (not exaggerating) 50 times the size of the vein on my other hand. like it was like an inch long and like half an inch wide and really think and like purple. and i couldnt do nething and the boss was like JUST IGNORE IT DO UR WORK so i put on a long shirt so i wouldnt have to see the grossness. now its like the end of the day and its gone except i have like a huge dark bruise there like there was internal bleeding.
so can anyone tell me what the hell this is. is it like a blood clot or like an aneurism in my hand? i am afraid to go to sleep cuz if it happens in my brain i will die or something. i didnt bang my wrist or anything!!!
please help.

Hi there,
I'm not a doctor, but since what happened to you was not severe enough that you felt you had to go to the hospital, it probably wasn't an aneurism. When you say "horrible pain", do you mean that it just hurt alot? Or was it like a really intense lightening pain? From what I understand, an aneurism (when it ruptures) is so suddenly and intensely painful that it really knocks you off your feet. In any event, if you did have something like that happen anywhere in your body, you would have bled to death by now. :bouncing:
I guess the point of all this was to say, don't worry about your brain. Brain aneurisms are not preceded by other stuff, they just happen. Sometimes you can have one your whole life and it will never rupture. But there's really no point to my even saying this because you don't have one!
Keep your chin up - we all have wacky health worries; that's why we're here!

I had something similar to what you described but it was on my left thumb. I was just about finished washing the dishes, the water was the temperature it usually is and i hadn't knocked my thumb against anything when suddenly it hurt like hell. It was like something had my vein/nerve in a vice and was pinching it and it stung too and the vein was sticking out. I stopped what i was doing and rubbed it, thinking it would go away. Big mistake!!! the rubbing caused major bruising for nearly a week and my thumb looked as though something had tried to bite it off.
Around this time i had experienced twice, first thing in the morning, cramps in my leg. I have a very high pain threshold and nothing much grosses me out, but the pain both times was unbelievable.
So the cramps twice over and then the pinched nerve or blood clot in my thumb was enough for me. The only thing i could attribute it to was taking birth control pills. The particular one i was on caused me SO many side effects during the 4 months i was on it. I stopped taking them the day after my thumb incident and haven't had problems since.
I'm sure these things can happen without birth control, but the coincidence was too high. I'm not sure what other things this can be a cause of.

on my left wrist, i have this vein that sticks out a bit more than on my other wrist. it's a bit larger too, especially when i am straining my left hand. i have quite a few dark bruises around it too. went to the doctor and showed him and he thought nothing of it. i believe this was caused by wearing my watch and never taking it off, even before going to sleep sometimes. so i do not wear anything on my left wrist anymore.
